My dishwasher is not feeling well. It is running and sounds like it goes through the cycles, but the little cube of soap isn't getting dissolved and nothing is getting clean. Just wet. Any ideas? It is about a 5 year old Bosch. And I am not happy.

Sounds like the fill valve crapped out.

Use your googlefu and see if the same symptoms.

Bingo. I am working in my office while my wife is upstairs troubleshooting. She just came down to tell me she thinks we need a new fill valve. Guess I married a good woman huh?

Wait so she's ok? Im confused now because of the title of the thread I thought she had died!!

Cube of soap. Those things are wrapped in plastic and it needs to go somewhere. Your pump intake could be plugged and your not getting enough water flow to actually wash anything, just get things wet. Also, is it draining properly when it does drain?

I had a Whirlpool dishwasher crap out in a similar fashion. Replaced it with a GE not long ago. I still have the soap cubes, but I remove the plastic first.

My parents had a Bosch. It malfunctioned and melted the power cord and outlet without tripping the breaker.

We normally use the hardened soap version by Finish since that is recommended by Bosch. But my wife did just buy some of the plastic wrapped gel ones on sale! :(

Ok, just got done driving 3 hrs after the first post,

Pull the bottom tray out and pull up the screen there in the middle, there should be a smaller filter basket in there. Check it to for plug, way down inside you should see the pump impeller, try to spin it, it should easily. Does it spin and the filters are clean?
If yes, that's not the problem.

Next thing to check is actually getting water, you'll have to pull the dishwasher out. Shut off ( Cutoff ) the water supply under the sink. Then disconnect the water feed line under the dishwasher, put it in a bucket and turn the valve on, does it spray water like a 4 year old learning to pee in the toilet? If yes, put the hose back on. That's not the problem.

We're back it the fill valve.

My dad says two things. Either your waters not getting hot enough or something got in the pump and stripped the fins in the pump.

Claims of Mrs. Fool's greatness appear to have been exaggerated. The good news is that the dishwasher worked! Yippee. Now the bad news. We are not getting hot wayer to the sink faucet now. It is like a trickle. Cold water is full speed ahead. I checked the obvious. The knob is turned and the line is open. Not going to mess with it tonight. Figured I'll get under there tomorrow, shut the water off and look things over. Anything obvious I should look for? Could there be a clog somewhere?

Nothing is ever easy huh?

go down and take the hot water hose off from the sink faucet. Tell us what you see. A screen? Plugged hose? Calcium buildup?

This is easy, compared to replacing a rim joist on a brick house.

That was my guess. I am done for today. I'll mess with it tomorrow and report back. Thanks for all the help. My guess is there is something clogging it. I moved the pipe a little and the flow changed. Something in there.

Possibly a piece of calcium or rock running up in there.
How old, and when was the last time you blew down the waterheater?
Pull the strainer/ aerator off while you are fiddling with it. Check it form clean too.

We have a tankless water heater that I have never done anything to. Probably 5 or 6 years old at least. Guess I should put that on my list. I'll pull the hose torrow and see if there is something obvious.
