Hi friends... My dishwasher shit the bed today. It's 21 years old, so no big deal. I feel lucky that it lasted this long.

Have any of you bought a new dishwasher recently? What's the best name brand nowadays? Any other tips?

I'll probably go through Lowes because they give me a 10% veteran discount. And I'll probably pay for installation. I installed one for a friend a few years ago and it was a pain in the ass.

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Bought 2 in the last 2 years (2 different houses). We liked it so much at the old place we bought the same one here after moving in.

Bosch SilencePlus cant tell it's running till it beeps when its done

Bosch is great. Just make sure it is leveled properly. My sister overloaded hers (not level) and it would not run.

Yep, Bosch all the way. I sold appliances for decade. Bosch makes the best I can afford. Plus most Bosch have stainless tubs and that is way better than plastic for odor and cleaning.

Bosch also ... the top utensil rack rocks!

Our old dishwasher was so noisy it could only be run at night when we went to bed and we could still hear it at the far end of the house. Had a kitchen remodel 3 years ago and put in the Bosch with the top utensil tray and it's so quiet we can run it while watching tv 10 feet away. The only way we know it's running is by the red timer light on the front. And we bought it at Lowe's so I got my 10% mil disc too.

Stainless tubs are quieter. I've been very satisfied with our Maytag models, I buy them before the new models come out.
Only problem I've had with them is the internal door latch, replaced under warranty.
I'm on my third DW, I replace them every 8-10 years. We run them hard.

I replaced our 25 yo GE with another GE. Very quiet. I hope it lasts half as long as the other one did. We also got one with the stainless steel insides.

What did she... oh, wrong thread.

We picked a ultra low dB Bosch unit about 2 years ago. The light on the front is needed!

I don't know if the top rack adjusters are still plastic. Ours was and they broke last month I think due to the heat. New replacement parts are available (Amazon) and are made of stainless and Teflon.

Bosch but only the mid or top level. The lower end models are not as well insulated and are noisier...they clean just as well though and the control options are limited too.

I work in the industry, not for Bosch, but if I wasn’t given one for free, I’d buy a Bosch.

If you don’t want the best, it’s a different answer, but a $3-400 Lowes special will never hold a candle to a $800+ Bosch. Even high end $30k+ kitchens use Bosch dishwashers.

Just saw this thread and was going to jump in and suggest Bosch but it appears that may have been suggested already!

This one gets my vote.

I would suggest Bosch because my wife's relatives like them so much. So much that they buy a new one every 3-4 years. Because the old one is trash by then. One of them actually caught fire. I can't suggest Bosch.

I have an older Electrolux and I like it. It was installed by the previous owners of the house. It is quiet, cleans dishes without pre scrubbing and drys them well.

Replaced a 7 YO Bosch with a Miele a couple months ago. Some Bosch dishwashers, like ours, have a problem with the heater relay failing, poor design using a 10 amp relay on a 10 amp heating element.

We went with Kitchen Aid two years ago. Very happy with it. Nice and quite. One of our daughters has a Bosh and the noise level is about the same. Quite!

Bosch.

We had a Maytag that we had nothing but issues with, it nearly caught fire.

The only thing I do not like about our Bosch is that you have to be on top of cleaning the filter and screen... but thats a me thing and not a reflection of the machine.

Read the book about how to load the Bosch if you get one, it makes a huge difference in how well it dries.

This one gets my vote.

I like this one too. I do not know if the wife would appreciate my choice though. Although she just might as long as the dishes were washed, dried and put away!

We bought our house 5 years ago and had the developer/builder install the cheapest black whirlpool on their list of options. My thinking was that if it wasn't any good i would sell it on CL and buy a Bosch (because Bosch wasn't one of their options). The <$400 Whirlpool has surpassed all my expectations, and the wife didn't even think it was worth it to replace it. Cleans well, dries well, and it's really quite too.
