Folks, if you plant onions, leaks and shallots you need to look hard at ordering from Dixondale. I've been using them for a long time and have never been disappointed.

If you like sweet onions that taste better or equal to vidalias,

Here is their order form which gives you shipping and planting dates by zip code.

I planted the Candy onions this past spring and had a great harvest from them. I got their new catalog in the mail last week. Will definitely order from them again.

The first order was lost in the mail and I emailed and they shipped them again.

You all probably know this already, but I worked really really hard planting onions for years before I saw this video and saved myself a lot of time.

Short version is just throw the seeds in a flat and lightly cover. Don't sow individual seeds. You can pull the seedlings apart without really damaging the roots when it's time to transplant.

The farm I drove for does the onion seeds, said it's a whole lot cheaper than buying plants. They sow them in flats in the greenhouse around this time of the year and then transplant them in I believe March. Not sure how many acres they plant but they put 60K per acre.

When you only plant about 100 plants, it not that big a deal. Dixondale does not sale seed.
