I'm hoping some of you can share your creative containers you have converted into parts washing trays. Hoping to find some perfect fits for soaking bolt carriers, barrels, small parts, etc. that don't require gallons of liquid. Something with a nice liquid-tight lid is a bonus. And materials that will stand up (glass, stainless, etc.)

Empty metal paint cans. They can be had new and clean in different sizes at your local paint store or at most woodworking stores.

I use operating room instrument washing tray, its a fine stainless steel mesh, with solid walls and handles (that were being thrown out) and a plastic basin.

I just use that Tupperware bowl I can never find the lid for under the cabinet... Cheap and always easy to come by at my house.

Know anyone with a new baby? some of the formula plastic containers work well for parts storage as they have a hinged lid that snaps closed and fairly small so no losing the lid issues. Never tested them to see if the lids leak or not but have a bunch I kept from when my kids were small and use to store screws, nails and small parts in.

Glass loaf pan with snap on top from WalMart. I use a sink strainer as the small parts bin

I like the cheap family dollar bread/roasting pans. Cheap and easily replaced when worn. They are actually quite robust.

PVC pipe of correct diameter cut to length with solid cap glued to one end and screw on cap on other end. Fill and let stand. Or lay on side.

I could split some PVC pipe lengthwise like a drum smoker.

How does PVC stand up to various solvents? I have some Slip 2000 Carbon Killer that supposedly removes plastic (in shotgun barrels). It's the green milky water based solvent that smells like Goo Gone. EDIT: Hmmm... it does come in a plastic bottle.

I've used a Tupperware pickle saver for years. It has a mesh bottom with a handle, all plastic. I keep it full of mineral spirits. When I disassemble a piece I just drop the parts in. Pulling up on the handle leaves the mineral spirits behind and brings up the parts.
