Do dial locks work on their side?

Do dial locks work if they're "sideways" to their normal orientation? It looks like they do have to be vertical to gravity to have the bar drop into the dials, but maybe that's spring loaded these days?

Just thinking of some alternate ways to mount a safe and wondered what happened if you mounted it 90 degrees to it's normal orientation.

Most S&G locks have set pins to mount the lock/dial in 90 degree increments. Any angle would work but the dial indicator would be at an angle also.

Yes it will work mechanically. Good video above. I used this when I swapped out my electronic lock a while back.
