Do you ever call the cops?

House next door was having work done, the guy kept blocking my mailbox with the pickup truck,
we had a temp carrier as my regular guy was out on medical leave, I got no mail for a week and a 'blocked mailbox' card inside.
I left nice note on the windshield but he continued to block my mailbox.
Called the sheriff office directly, they sent a nice young deputy out, she had a nice chat with the guy.
Wife was mad that I did that to a neighbor, well the contractor was not a neighbor and I never see the home owner.
Am I understanding this correctly? They put a blocked mailbox card in your mailbox but couldn't put the mail in it?

Yeah, a regular USPS driver wouldn't have bothered with the card, mail would just go right in a ditch somewhere.
Not our guy, he was the best, 30 yr carrier.
Retired after his knee replacements. :)

I live in Durham, which *shock* has its fair share of crime problems. Last Saturday night, I was awoken at about 3 a.m. to two suspicious vehicles and behavior down the street, following a rash of half a dozen car break-ins in our neighborhood only the night before. I called emergency dispatch, reminding them about the break-ins, and they told me they had an officer in the area who they would send over right away. It took that officer 35 minutes to arrive, by which time the two vehicles and their occupants had already gone.

Frustrating, to say the least.
Welcome to Durham:rolleyes: That's exactly why I left there many years ago

I have called * HP on several occasions when I see dumbasses driving all over the damn road because they have their eyes on their DAMN phone texting or replying to emails or what ever the f#@k they are doing . It pisses me off because Number 1 it's illegal and frigging dangerous . I saw a 19 year old get killed in a car wreck not long ago because she was texting instead of paying attention to the road. I will call the police every time I see this. I actually saw a black guy driving a Loomis Fargo Armored truck the other day and weaving all over the road,. Got beside him ,guess what ?TEXTING on his damn phone. In all fairness I will say that I sometime text while driving but only when its necessary. I DO NOT type the text . I use the talk in the phone method. Its simple and you don't have to take your eyes off the road

I did once, an apparent domestic violence incident. Guy pummeling his female passenger in the head while stopped at an intersection. Because it was opposite me, I could not get tag #. Waited for SO, gave statement and never heard outcome.

When seconds count...

The cops are busy hassling someone for BS or shooting up the wrong house. Or each other.

Called twice for drunks. I have lost 3 uncles to people driving drunk so I have a slight issue with it. Especially in the time we live there is just no reason to drive drunk.

In my 20’s I saw a guy going at a very pregnant woman on the side of the road. U turn, three the passenger door open, and asked her if she’d like to get away. She declined.
A decade later my brother did something similar, she declined as well. Then the frat boys the thug was with attacked my brother & his friend, 10 against 2 trying to get away. He broke loose and ran, his buddy & girlfriend almost got into their car. The fratties pulled his buddy out, spread eagle on the roof while one guy jumped up and down on him with the girl friend screaming inside. They spotted my brother, four ran towards him, the first one to attack him ran into the point of a 3” folding pocket knife at belt level. The 1” cut caused him to bleed out in 20 min. The punk had a rap sheet of attacking folk as long as my arm, yet my brother was convicted of murder.
This side of the story is from from the testimony of the dead kid’s friend, that was next to him at the time.
I’m much more cautious about what I’ll get involved in.

I don't think I've ever called the cops. Sheriff came out to talk to my wife once after we bought a house and some jackass showed up asking her about our home security. He was basically casing the place to see if he wanted to come back and rob us.

I have called a few times on the road, for MVCs, people walking in the road, things like that. At home, we've called....three times, I think, and animal control, once.
