I’m looking for any recommendations on someone or somewhere that does engraving. My dad bought a 22 rifle for his dad and wanted to get an image of my grandfathers dog tags engraved in the stock. Dad said that my grandpa has carried the tags around since his military service years ago. This was my dads idea to make the rifle special and a family heirloom to pass down after my grandpa has passed. Dad is suppose to be talking with someone local but they don’t usually do guns so I mentioned the forum to him and he wanted me to ask around. We’re planning on doing Christmas dec 14th and my dad would like to be able to give the rifle to his dad then, but could wait until Christmas if needed.

I also wanted to mention he wants the engraving on the stock beside the American flag.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance,

Zack

Nellie Whitener, if she's still alive (she'd be in her mid 70's now) could likely do it.

C & N engraving 3643 NC Hwy 801 N, Mocksville, NC.

She used to sell custom engraved wood grips on Ebay.

Thanks I’ll give her a shout and see what’s up.

@ncengravers should be able to do what you want with his laser.

NCengravers was the first person I contacted. He does awesome work and I’ve had him do a few things for me in the past but wood is a no go for him. Good thinking though zbizzle.

If you would please keep us updated. I would like to do something similar and I am sure there are others on here also.

No problem, I’ll post a picture when it’s finished.

I read a thread a while back where a guy on here was doing some grips on a wheel gun that were amazing but I can’t remember who it was. I was thinking about asking him if he did work for other folks or just liked working on his own guns.

You mean @Sharps40?

I think it was, I was looking back after I posted and found the thread but I i think I misremembered. I remember seeing those grips and I thought he made them but now i’m thinking maybe not.

He did a thread where he fitted ornate carved grips to a single action a while back.

Could you pull the stock and ship it? I work at a laser shop and we can engrave it on the wood no problem if it is somewhat flat where you want the engraving...but we aren’t an FFL so we can’t accept the firearm. Price would be about $25 plus return shipping. Location is Rutherford County NC.

I’d look for a someone in your area with a CO2 laser. Maybe on the facebook marketplace. It’d be a simple job for someone even with a hobby level machine.

A big thank you to @CHRIS_WNC for helping my dad, I was just along for the ride. We think it turned out awesome and now my grandpa will have a one of a kind rifle this Christmas. This is the picture I took right after the work was done while chatting it up with Chris. I meant to take a few more at home after we cleaned it up with a little oil but forgot and now it’s wrapped up. The smudge marks wiped right off and it looks like a factory piece.

Thanks again cff for the help

@Pbj ak

Did you give it on the 14th? If so, how was the reaction?
