I have but the radios on the charger, spare batteries charged, got spare fuel, load tested the main generator, changed out my chainsaw blade, picked up some spare spark plugs that I was short on, and did a few other odds and ends.
Now that I have my stuff squared away and double checked the hurricane will turn back out to sea and leave us be lol.

Edit: so the reason for the spare spark plugs, we have a spare portable generator that is propane powered. It typically runs awesome, but it will eat up a spark plug, like within 72 hours of run time. So I try to keep two or three on hand for it at all times. The predator we use to power the house never gives and issue, the little CAT that powers the chicken houses always runs, but the propane Generac can be a little bit of a maintenance whore. But we like having the option to run propane so we keep it up.

That’s pretty much the case 95% of the time for any storm “crisis” the MSM ... especially the Weather Channel ... starts pumping up.

Gotta wonder how many generators and other stuff will be returned after Dorian passes by? Prep a little here and there ... and actually have a plan on what you really need and how to use it rather than just buy crap because you think you could use it. Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance ...

I really didn’t have much to do except pull out the storage bins for storms be it ice/snow or hurricane. We date and rotate stuff like water, canned foods and such thru on a regular basis so no real push unless the wife needs chocolate or we need adult beverages.

Thank you for your service! :p

I’m frantically looking for my golf umbrella, other than that I’m well prepared for what’s coming.
I am typically 98% squared away, I try to stay in a constant state of improvement and that means something is never 100%.

We got plenty of food, plenty of gas for the generator if need be, and 6-8 20lb propane cylinders full. We don’t need nothing but some shitty weather :D

Nothing to be worried about this far inland (Jamestown) but have gas for Genni, plenty of food and water. Maybe pick up a spare spark plug but that’s it. Worried for the ones on coast though.

Yesterday I:
Finished cutting the grass
Started the generator
Picked up another 10 gallons of gas, we were low anyway

Today I dumped 250 gallons of old water and refilled with fresh, topped off with a little bleach.

Other than that, business as usual at Sneaky Owl Acres...

What's all this talk about spare spark plugs, like they go bad every other tank of fuel.
I have a chain saw I bought in 1989 that still runs great, with the same spark plug that came with it.

Yep they go bad and I have seen them foul from other things, so I keep one or two for about everything on hand, a few gallons of coolant, oil, ect....
But is it still running the same chain?

Where do I put the coolant??????

Looks like parts of South Carolina will be under a mandatory evacuation come tomorrow. I think I heard that I-26 lanes will be reversed.

Thoughts are with those in the path of the storm.
Looks good out this way in the Triad (so far nothing showing on my weather apps), but yall are in my thoughts
If you need anything let us know

Am I the only one getting sick and tired of hearing the weather channel inject suspenseful music into its forecasts? This isn't a Jason Bourne movie.
At least it’s not the stalking thing from Jaws ...

Well all the talk about chain saws, I guess I’ll buy a new chain today and sharpen the old one. I might buy a spark plug. LOL. Yep time to dump old water and refill the buckets.

Aannnnd, this thread reminded me that I need to clean my gutters. Awesome.

My #1 storm prep is: Don't live at the coast. My sister is probably gonna ride it out in Garden City Beach along with my uncle. That place has dodged more close calls than I know of since Hugo. When I lived there in 96 Hurricane Fran did the same track they've forecast for Dorian. It was rainy and windy.

Pulled out Jenny. That's her name. And fired her up and load tested her, topped her tank and put her back up. Topped all fuel tanks and thought about sharpening the chain on ye ole saw....

Darn I forgot to top off my generator. It likely got 3/4 of a tank and 15 gallons of spare ready to go. I will be at work until Friday morning at 7am unless they make us stay longer, which won’t shock me. We should be good right here by I-95

Just for S & G’s, where did Dorian make landfall?

Cape Lookout. You know, a government-owned piece of land where nobody lives anymore. That's why the news isn't shouting it from the rooftops. Looks like people on the OBX are having a hard time, esp the newcomers.

I think technically, any land that shows up inside the eye wall is Landfall.

Cape Lookout just barely was inside the eyewall at 0430, and then Core Banks was just inside it as the eye moved toward Ocracoke. Ocracoke was inside the eyewall, too, barely. The center of rotation came the closest to land at Cape Hatteras. It might have gone ashore there, hard to tell even on the animated radar.
