This thread is for posts announcing the opening up for registration for the DPRC Precision Rimfire matches, which are held second Sundays in a relay format, March through December. Lots more information about these matches is available on the match page. I am happy to answer questions but please read the match page first.

If you are interested in the matches, watch this thread for updates, or send an email to [email protected] to be notified sooner.

The first precision rimfire match of 2017 is Sunday March 12. Range 0 is still closed. Range 1 has been renovated, and I think we can use the full 100 yards now, so we will be shooting at 50 and 100 yards, with no Varmint division.

The match will be run with a cold range. Bring all firearms cased and unloaded. Firearms will only be uncased on the firing line when it is time to prepare for your first (50 yard) string. When you are done with your last string, they will be cased on the firing line as the following shooters are transitioning to their next strings. No firearms will be uncased or handled behind the shooting line.

Please bring standard velocity ammunition (1100fps or less) 22LR to shoot the match. SK Standard Plus is a good choice at the value end of the spectrum of target 22LR. Maverick Gunworks, a new gun store right in Mebane south of I-40 at the route 119 exit past the Smithfields BBQ, is sponsoring our matches and tries to keep SK Standard Plus in stock. Stop in and thank him, and pick up a few boxes if you need some.

This month's tactical positions:
50 yards: Sitting on stump in tall grass: sit on a range bench stool but no bench or other stools.
100 yards: Two Positions: 10 targets from on body of 5 gal bucket on bench (any orientation, no stool), then move with bolt open, mag out, muzzle downrange onto stool behind bench for remaining 10 targets. Rifle, bipod, front bag, and extra mags if desired touching bench, but not the competitor or his other stuff.

You may enter twice in different divisions - you will need a different email for each one. If you are using gmail, then this can be done easily. If your email is [email protected], you will receive any email addressed to [email protected], so you can sign yourself up as [email protected] and your kid as [email protected] for example.

If you are registering yourself multiple times, or sharing equipment with someone, remember to allow a time slot between your start times.

Squad number corresponds to start times below. Please arrive 20 minutes ahead of time to sign in and pay ($10 DPRC members with badge, $10 active military, all under 18 free, $15 other non-members).

Registration for the April 9th match is open for signup. Range 1 at DPRC, with targets at 50 and 100 yards.

This month's tactical positions:
50 yards: Rifle muzzle supported anywhere above centerline of a wire spool on its rolling edges. No bench or stool. 10 shots strong side, transition with bolt open to weak side, remaining 10 shots
100 yards: Rifle muzzle supported on top of a wire spool on its flat side. No bench or stool. FYI - The spools are relatively small plastic spools, not the common large wooden ones. They are not very heavy or stable in any position.

More information above and on the match page.

Registration for the May 14th match is open for signup. Range 1 at DPRC, with targets at 50 and 100 yards.

This month's tactical positions:
50 yards: Upside down 5 gal bucket on bench supporting rifle.
100 yards: From behind an approximately 1’ tall barrier on the ground. Muzzle should be over the barrier (to ensure not hitting it) but the barrier is not a support for the rifle.

More information above and on the match page.

Registration for the June 11th match is open for signup. Range 1 at DPRC, with targets at 50 and 100 yards.

This month's tactical positions - 2 classics from a couple years ago:
50 yards: Standing with rifle supported by wobbly post.
100 yards: Rifle supported in middle third of diagonal 2x4 from bench to ground. No stool, shooter not braced on bench.

More information above and on the match page.

Registration for the July 9th match is open for signup. We are back on Range 0 at DPRC, with targets at 50, 100, and 150 yards.

This month's match will be the NC State Shooting Games Precision Rimfire match (see ncrpa.org). There will be awards afterward for the top 3 places in each division, and for top senior (150 yard) and youth (150 yard). Since the match is in a relay format, I will be happy to hold the medals for the next match or two for pickup by anyone that doesn't want to wait until all the shooting finishes.

You will need 40 rounds plus a few sighters for shorter and target divisions (50 and 100 yards), and 60+ rounds for varmint and tactical. You may enter twice in different divisions - you will need a different email for each one. All divisions shoot from the bench except for tactical.

This month's tactical positions:
50 yards: Standing, rifle supported on somewhat slack rope between uprights. You can adjust the height.
100 yards: Sitting (range stool), rifle supported on 2x4 between benches. 10 shots each right and left handed. Shooter can't use benches.
150 yards: From bench, but no stool (standing, leaning, kneeling or whatever you can make work without anything to sit on).

Squad number corresponds to start times below. Please arrive 20 minutes ahead of time to sign in and pay ($10 DPRC members with badge, $10 active military, all under 18 free, $15 other non-members).

The August 2017 Precision Rimfire match is Sunday August 13th on Range 0 at DPRC, at 50, 100, and 150 yards.

This month's tactical positions use the new barrier created for the 22 Challenge match on July 30th:

50 yards: Standing, support rifle on vertical left edge of barrier
100 yards: Support rifle on 3rd step on right side of barrier (~50" from ground about 9" wide). You may use a range stool in addition to your equipment.
150 yards: Support rifle on first step on right side of barrier (~18" from the ground). No stool or bench.
