It seems the consensus is that we are going to do this! Realizing that the holidays are upon us, Christmas and New Years are right around the corner and the end of the month is looming, this one is technically going to be for January 2020. This was it'll give folks a few more days to get it knocked out.

So the way this works is, you shoot the drill, either post a video of you shoot it and/or pictures of your target. Give everyone your feedback of your impressions of the drill, what you learned from it and what, if anything you plan on working on in the future based on the results of the drill. It is going to be a lot easier to get specific feedback from folks if you are able to post video, however I realize not everyone will have the capability or be comfortable with doing that, and if that is the case, no biggie. The most important thing is that you are getting out there and giving the drill a shot with the intent to learn a little bit about your shooting, rather than just mindlessly punching holes on paper with no goal what so ever. Which is something we have all done at one point or another on the square range.

Anyhow, onto the Drill of the Month, the 5x5 Drill. Here is a great explanation of the dill from Lucky Gunner:

https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/start-shooting-better-5x5-drill/

And the PDF version of the target:
https://loungecdn.luckygunner.com/lounge/media/5x5-drill-1.pdf

I realize that they use three different sheets of paper with 6 circles to shoot the drill, however personally I plan on using one sheet to shoot all of the strings of fire, to save time and a couple of sheets of paper.

You all have until the end of January to post up your results, pics and/or videos of you shooting the drills. I hope everyone has a great time with it and this proves to be the great learning experience it is intended on being.

Stay safe, Gil

Wow, that's going to be a huge challenge for me!

I'm not really that used to shooting at 5 yards. I do have a timer I can set for 5 seconds, so I can see if I'm at least ok on time!

But I'll give it a go, not sure I'll be able to video it, though.

A bit early but I had time today so threw this together and an idea. Ive been out of the sport for a few years due to an injury and this is a great way to try and get back up to speed. How about posting something early in the month then after some practice another one at the end of the month? Dont mind my range, its under construction. Weapon is a CZ P01 running 124gn Blazer fmj.

Yeah I know, my camera sucks...LoL. hopefully I did it right....Now after posting this no one has to feel ashamed nor do you have an excuse :D

Sorry, your major challenge might be to print targets!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Excellent idea on the "before and after" progress!

And that was an awesome video! (Love the sound of gunfire.) I could see all the holes as they appeared, so you must have done it right!

Not a video, but my first go with these targets:

Also, I used no timer, though I think I did ok, as my shooting usually is about once a second(ish)...also, I used both 1911s for this trial run. Mostly I just wanted to see if I could actually hit the circles. They were surprisingly easy to see! So at the end of January, I hope to post a video, and some improvement!

Good to know I got something right. Didnt have a timer either but one was ordered and on the way. We all just make due with what we have at the time.

You only shot it twice? And did you really print it on sticker paper? lol
We shot it 3 times, used the head box on a USPSA target for round 3. Ran out of daylight, plus I cant read instructions very well.

I forgot to take my label sheets out of the printer.....

Nice! Looks like a couple of groups are significantly better than others, which I would think tells me consistent grip would help. Practicing your grip building a few times before actually shooting each circle would be beneficial. Think of it as incorporating dry fire in with a live fire drill. Also, the ones that are low left, could likely be centered just by increasing the grip pressure in your support side hand. This is assuming you are a right handed shooter. Please give a shot and let me know if either of those suggestions help.

That actually makes it much more entertaining. Let me know the next time you are running trough it and I'll swing by! Keep you "on task". ;)

I'll add this to my list, thanks! And yes, right handed. Also working on grip strength. lol.

That was a hell of a run. I think it would actually be harder to do it continuously rather than with the 5 second par for each circle. Nicely done.

Thanks, far from my best but its like learning all over again. Nerve damage has left me with appx 75% strength and sensation in my right hand but ill get my shooting back to where it was...hopefully.

I hope you do! I am stuck with permanent right side extremity nerve damage and neuropathy. Good thing I'm a lefty - I'd be an even worse shot than I am already! :D

All we can do is try and make the best out of what we were dealt. Personally I hate not being able to feel the trigger but can also imagine the issues pertaining to the support side also. Bust out the soldering gun and get to stippling, its a good day for it.

This looks like Big Fun!!! I noticed from the target that the original requires from a "low ready" with a variation from the holster. We will add from Concealment here since that's the way we are required to carry. I think we will start from low ready as the target says and then do the other two for a 3 sequence drill. Looks like fun!

Keep in mind your grip is to control the recoil.
Yeah, not that level of grip strength. The kind to which I refer is being able to grip something securely, period.

Keep in mind your grip is to control the recoil. You will never stop the recoil but you can control it.
I had hoped I'd be handling recoil better by now, over a year in, and I was using the least recoil-y guns I have, but.....more work needs to be done, obviously! Lol. Thanks!

Level of recoil control is dependent on the shooter. Sure gripping the gun hard will reduce muzzle flip. However a correct grip of any pressure will allow the sights to return correctly. Yes you may have to wait for it but it should still return.

neuropathy
I feel your pain and numbness! LOL. It's awful to have feet and hands numb/painful.....can't tell where your feet are stepping (and in/on what!), can't tell how your hands are gripping and pressing....lol. But we keep on going! YAY us!

So my wife and I went to PHA today around noon. I printed off one of these targets and ran this drill with my P365 from concealment and cold. I had not shot since late October due to work and other obligations so I felt like I did pretty good. The first rounds I fired today were the 5 slow rounds before running the drill. The fastest I ran it was 4.24 and I dropped a couple out of the circle low and left. Below is the video my wife shot for me. Let me know what y'all think!
