I will be touring some small towns i Central Virginia soon. I have checked the net for info on reciprocity.

Looks good and I see no real issues. I did notice that you only disclosed when carrying if ask?
So, unlike NC, if stopped you say nothing unless ask.

Anybody else have any tidbits of info about Concealed carry in Virginia?

I tell them I'm carrying even if I'm in a state that doesn't require me to. It seems to put the officers a little more at ease and I have never gotten a ticket after doing so?

I also declare I'm carrying and hand over both cards, or did when I had a concealed permit .

There was a funny bit on Live PD the other night. Cop pulls over a motorist and see a pistol between the drver's seat and center console. The guy's permit was in order so no problem there. The driver mentions the gun is unloaded and the ammo and magazine safely in the trunk.

The cops is like, "WTF good is that?" o_O

Thats what they say in Jersey....then they have you pop your truck to see if the ammo is lock secured in its own carrier. Simply being in the trunk is not "secured" according to the Garden state! I dont offer up anything unless asked! I looked into getting a VA permit, as I have family there, but they are almost as bad as Jersey....enjoy your trip and lots to see if you like Civil War stuff and history! Stay off the main drags and VA is no different that Carolina....well mostly...been a good while since inhabited either.

No No. The cop was asking why the guy wasn't carrying loaded and chambered.

Officer asked him 'do you think you will have time to load it'?
Carrying the ammo and magazine(s) in the trunk makes the whole "one in the pipe or not" discussion kinda moot.

For VA issued permits it is attached to your DL so if they pull you over after they run your VA lic thy know you have a permit. If you have not told them you have a permit and are carrying they will ask you when they return with your ticket. It is best for all parties if you inform them. I ma not sure if their database has other states CHP info. Most of the rural areas are fine. Where specifically are you headed and I can tell you if there are any spots to be more concerned in.
