It's been a while since I bought some, but since my pops is retired and reloading more it's time to replace the media. We reload 9mm and 45acp, so what type of media would be good to buy and metal polish to dump in it.

Thanks

Reactions: Me.
I found walnut media lasts longer than the corn cob and seems to do a quicker job.
I put a splash of Whites metal polish (used for buffing cars) in as well and I am happy with the results.

I have not dry-tumbled in a long time, but when I did I used a liquid car wax (I think it was Mequiar's) but I have also used Turtle Wax. Make sure whatever you use doesn't have ammonia in it, as that can degrade the brass (or so I have heard). I also added a capful of mineral spirits to the mix.

Crushed walnut with a good squirt of NUFinish car polish. Once you start using walnut and polish never change out the media. The longer you use it the better it gets. If you lose some volume just add a little new walnut to the old but don't change it out. Each time you tumble brass add more polish.

Another thing you can do is wash/soak the brass in Lemi Shine and dawn. Let it soak for a little while. Rinse. Throw on a towel in the sun to dry. If you do soak, deprime the brass. I soak some once with the old primers in the cases and I had some fugly streaked brass for all my hard work. Then into the tumbler it goes. I find the wax in the polish keeps the brass from tarnishing. Keeps them nice and shiney.

NuFinish! That is what I used.
That's what I still use on my cars. It's the original synthetic car polish and it works great, that's why it's still around. Apply every 6 months, sometimes I'll use a spray on / wipe off booster just for grins in between applications but not required at all. Stuff is awesome IMO. And now back to reloading media talk...

This is all I use these days. I tried some corn cobb stuff that was evidently too large because it got stuck inside the cases and primer pockets. What a pain. Larger walnut media leave pieces in the flash holes too often. Another pain. The reptile bedding is ground finely enough so that it rarely gets stuck in the flash holes.
