Without notice today . They rap on the door and tell my wife they are replacing the pole across the street. No notice, no flier days before . Nothing.
As they are doing that , my wife and MIL are leaving and she sees the TCW/Spectrum wire fir phone and Internet in a wad in the driveway.
She tells them " don't forget to connect that wire, it's our phone and Internet "

She leaves. I get home and the phone and Internet isnt working.
I go outside and the wire is cut and hanging in a tree 50' from the pole. ?? What the hell...

I call Duke and get thru the phone tree and " wrong dept " transfers. And the Gal says " you'll have to call your provider it get it fixed"
I'm all --> :mad:. Um NO ! I didn't ask for the pole to be replaced, I didn't order , approve , or even nod to replace it.
How did this become my issue to resolve?! I didn't cut the wire, I didn't turn my elec off, I didn't run the truck that pulled the old pole, I didn't even pump the gas to drive the truck here .
Who ever did, needs to come fix it .

:mad::mad: You are not hearing me! If he can't, he needs to bring whom ever it is that can ! My phone is off and my Internet is down! Someone paid a guy to disconnect the wire then had them cut it up in our tree. That's the guy who need to fix it. I don't care how or by who. Get it Fixed!

I don't care if he brings Donald Trump , get it fixed.

Sounds about right. At least we got a letter the other day about a planned outage next week. Will get to test my genetator under load for 6 hrs or so. If they cut the Spectrum cable in the process, wont be any need to run the generator. I will have to take my wife somewhere for the day.

Duke Energy is THE WORST. I think I posted here a ridiculous situation with them where I called customer service no less than 4 times (can't remember how many, now) and finally had to write to the head of the company, to get anything done. It was absurd on the level of a Monty Python skit, and the cs personnel were utterly pathetic.

Tech here now, saying its a dumb ass contractor that did it.
He's on my side trying to get it done tonight.
Calling them turds, idiots, dumasses :D
 
He's made no less than 5 calls already
Even to A spectrum buddy to get it done
 
That’s pretty bad. What I know about linemen (two in my family) is anything allowed to share pole space with them is in the way when they do line work and they will mutilate it and leave it for whoever it belongs to to fix.
 
Call Duke and ask to speak to their right of way coordinater. He’s usually a Duke employee that hates contractors
 
This is a learning thread for me...... I haven't have any problems, but I might take some pictures of the trucks/tags/people that's working next time... just in case.

I generally cut them some slack because for every time something like this happens there's another time when 6 trucks will roll out into a thunderstorm at 4am sunday morning to get your power back up.
 
Mastech came through here replacing poles not to long ago.. dropped a new one in front of the house (I was home while this was going on). When I asked them to make sure they secured the cable line back to the new pole they told me they didn't carry the proper staples to fasten them and I would have to call timewarner and have them come out to fix the cable line. They did however secure the cable to the line with big zip ties for the time being. The foreman explained it as being a contract issue to mess with another companys equipment (union BS I guess). I can't fault the foreman too much, he went ape shit on one of his workers for throwing a cigarette butt in the yard and looked over the yard a couple times to make sure nothing was left behind.
 
I hate duke power with a passion. they had one of their meters screwup on one of my barns and it ran up like $100 bucks worth of usage 3 months in a row and all this barn had was one fence box which doesn't use the minimum each month ever. I complained about it each month till after 4 months they came out and replaced it. They said they'd checked it each moth I'd complained which was a lie. Long story I got 2 barns same address but bout 1/4 mile apart so they always come to check up up at house then come to house to find out where other meter is. Anyway I tell them to tell person checking meter to call when they get here as I need to show them something so guy comes and does normal crap where's your other meter. Anyway guy checks it says yeah it's busted it turns it doesn't want to stop he shook it to show me. So I call duke power and tell them I'd like a partial refund for overcharge. That was 3 years ago I'm still fighting it and they keep saying it was right.
 
Guess you don't hate Duke as much as this guy hates my employer. :eek:

 
Guy couldn't get to done lastnight. Says he'll be down at Spectrum Office this morning when they open, to get some help and get it fixed today.
We'll see ...

They are a monopoly with a captive audience. They know they dont have to do s#it and there is nothing you can do about it. On the other hand shivering in the dark is not my idea of a good time.

I got the cussing out of my life when a grading and paving contractor we were working with got ready to close out a project and get off the site when MASTEC showed up unannounced and unexpected and proceeded to tear up the shoulder of the road the contractor had just final graded and seeded. He didn't care that MASTEC didnt work for me. They were putting in the power line for our new bldg. Nevermind that the line and the ductbank were already in the ground. These f#cking idiots just showed up and started digging. PIKE was much better to work with. Those guys were like family.
 
Duke has let me down.... maybe.
Called this morning, Spectrum is waiting for some supervisor to come in and see if it can, he can escalate.
I would have been better off lying and say I have medical conditions, a home business, and the President might need to use my phone and internet for them to put this on "priority" . as it is, It's booked for tomorrow... :(

Now it's not Spectrum's fault.. it's Duke and their Contractor.. Which they will be getting a logged complaint.
 
Came home at 5pm yesterday, power was on. Get a phone call around 7:30, but I'm in a tree stand. Kids and Wife says powers out. Our power NEVER goes out. Buried lines and such.

Turns out these geniuses were putting in a 'redundancy loop' and caused a friggin brownout that only affected about 5 homes on our street. Took 4 hours to fix it. And they still haven't completed the
so-called redundancy loop.

Hey, how about just leave it the hell alone since I can count the number of times the power has went out in ten years on one hand, mmmKay?
 
Today was our day 4 planned outage. Since the storms last night and local news reporting 70k homes w/o power, i called the number they sent me "if i had any ?'s about the outage". I asked if the outage was still on 4 today and they acted like i was an idiot 4 asking. Went 2 get generator gas and met 1st truck coming in the hood. I stopped and talked the guy. They were replacing 30yr old HV connections in pad mount xfmrs with new load break elbows which should have been there from 30yrs ago but hey, that was CP&L, dont do it right, just do it cheap. Couldnt back feed hse w/generator due to integral ground fault main circuit breaker tripping. Rigged up distribution thru hse with drop cords. Had wifi and video. Outage lasted 4.5hrs. Getting quotes next week on NG genset with xfr switch. Tired of messing with "portables".
 
You guys make out that being without internet and/or TV is a fate worse than death. Hell, I welcome the peace and quiet!! I get more accomplished when the utilities are down that at any other time!!

DP replaced my meter about 2 months ago and I noticed a fair drop in the bill, meter must have been bad or something?? Then last week I get a notice that they're replacing it again... Must have cut into their revenue stream..
 
I got no problem without Internet or TV... It's that they cut my line , then act like its my issue to resolve.
That is when we have a problem.
