I'm looking for electronic earbud style ear plugs. I want to be able to hear conversations, while having protection from gun blasts. I don't care about listening to music.

I've read reviews online, and they seem to be all over the place, and of course finding independent reviews or tests seems to be about impossible.

Looking for recommendations. I'd like to stay as affordable as possible.

@Button Pusher and I both bought Walkers BT buds when they were marked way down a couple years ago. I’m satisfied although I wish they did more to reduce gunfire sound. Maybe he’ll add his comments.

I have the Walker's. I like them for outdoor ranges, I wear them while RO'ing 3-Gun matches all day so they're comfortable enough and work well enough for that environment. I would not wear them indoors or on a firing line with a bunch of high power rifles going off left and right of me.

I bought the Axil GS. Perhaps my expectations are too high for these things but they’re worthless to me: poor fit, poor attenuation and really poor sound quality. 👎

That's one I've been seeing on my newsfeed, and when I looked into it, it gets a lot of bad reviews. Looks like it's the same one being sold under the Sig Sauer brand, too.

Agree, they do let me hear any RO commands, I wear them indoors only with pistol shooting near my lane.

I got an ad for these on IG after reading this post. Glad I saw the review here first

I’ve been trying to wear plugs for other loud noise sources (work, yard or, etc) more and more. I will say for any plug be it electronic or not fit is top of the importance list … seal to the ear canal. I tried stuff from the expensive to more budget friendly. To me the Walkers fit better … but the sound quality was only fair. Since I cared more about protecting what hearing I had left vs stereo quality sounds I went with Walker’s. I will also say I wear plugs only only outdoors and not near any crazy braked big bores … around major barkers and when I have to be indoors I wear plugs and muffs.

A little tip … wearing ear plugs regularly can possibly cause ear wax to build up. I recently thought I had messed up one ear but turns out the ear plugs had been contributing to excess buildup.

I have a pair of Walker's and they're so-so. They work, is about all I can say. They're for backup, if I get caught without my regular muffs or an impromptu tactical situation. I'd like to try a pair of Otto's as well.

Dang.... interesting thoughts here seems I'm on the other side. I got a pair of the Axil GS 2.0 and have been blown away personally. I use mine double duty both for work and range figured they would be a slimmer double feature when I run equipment at work all day with the Bluetooth. I will absolutely agree they are not the most comfortable but they do work amazingly. I've worn them for the last year and several full-day classes with no issues. I actually expected to kill them one day in the rain and they are still strong. Actually, my biggest gripes are I need to keep more foam spares mine are always used and the cord is too long always tucking under my hat since I broke the clip day one. I actually think they are better blocking sound than either my peltors or walker razors.

I have these. These come in a very small case that can easily fit into a pocket. They keep a charge a long time, more than a month if not used. The case charges the earbud when stored and the base comes with a USB cord to charge the base. They come with multiple ear attachments in an effort to provide you with a favorable fit. They have only two volume settings and are adjustable for each ear. The cord that attaches each ear bud is very, very thin and I often find it develops mystery knots. They work fairly well. After about six hours they do start to hurt in my ear, so I usually opt for a standard ear headset. That may change when it gets really hot out. Hope that helps.

Thank you, everyone, for the info and advice. I'm going to try the Axil GS earbuds. Although they get some bad reviews, they also get some good reviews. They have a 30 day free refund policy, so I'm going to give them a shot. On sale now for $130.
