Price, it's all about the price
Got it cleaned inside and out. Not a bit of wear on anything. Back of the box is labeled December 1981 and bears out in the features in the revolver. Made at a time when the cylinder flutes were no longer grooved, al la Smith Model 27 (and the top strap sight trough on this is grooved lengthwise only, where the earlier editions had grooves lengthwise in the trench and perpendicular across the top strap ledges.)
The polish is fine, the bluing is deep and rich. I'd say, the rival of any Smith of the same time frame.
A solid gun in transition. Firing pin was no longer in the nose of the hammer but mounted in the frame, occurring well ahead of smith and wesson who did the same at various times on various models all throughout the 90s.
The other primary difference between the Model 82 and this Model 80 is barrel. Model 82 has a heavy barrel, the Model 80 a fine tapered/pencil barrel.
Got it cleaned, inspected, greased, new springs and since the cosmetic condition is perfect, a new set of Altimont Ropers for a Smith K Frame....only the slightest tweak of the grip was required to mount it on the Taurus. (I had purchased a smith k frame pachmeyer gripper for this one but its such a pretty revolver, i put the gripper on my model 10 smith and swapped the walnut ropers over to the Model 80 Taurus.)
Out on the range with its new springing and grips its shooting just fine. A pleasureable way to spend an afternoon.
