I just bought a house in the Eastern part of NC, I'm about 10 min away from Mackeys ramp on the Albemarle Sound and 25 min away from Belhaven where there is some salt water fishing. Anyone have any success or tips on fishing this area either fresh or salt ? Since I don't have the budget for a sound boat and I like skinny water fishing, I bought a 17 ft bass boat with a Johnson GT-150 . I just got it water worthy in my eyes and need to get it wet. Anyone from round here ?

I don't have any fishing tips, but you're just a few minutes from my dad's vacation spot. The sound in that area is generally very calm and forgiving and generally not very crowded. I would stay in the freshwater myself. The biggest obstacle is crab pots around the 32 bridge.

There are a few guides that fish the sound there. Try hiring one of them and see what you can learn.

get a bigger boat 😁

serious, even the sound can get pretty rough, get a boat made for that water and waves. something will deep freeboard and self bailing.

in salt, vigorous flushing of cooling system....
We will have to see,, Im not planning on going out when the wind is kicked up but things happen and weather changes pretty quickly. Lake Norman or even High Rock would get pretty bad to sometimes. Thanks for the advise, Im paying attention.

You sure are right about all the crab pots near the bridge.. Looks like a slalom water skiers paradise. 😵

In my last travels down there in Belhaven trying to locate a suitable fishing spot, I came across a small Mom and Pop bait and tackle store/marina called Cee Bee's. Its on the Pungo Creek that feeds into the Pimlico and protected from the rough sound and wind. Lots of Jon boaters and kyacks out there and the locals tell me that the sea trout/Redish and Flounder fishing there is very good. The water quality is considered brackish to fresh depending on the wind. We shall see ??

just watch the wind. I have a buddy that fishes out of a bass boat all the time. Stay in the creeks and rivers and the wind and waves should be bearable
