Caveat Emptor - Ed Brown will exchange an old 1911 magazine for a new magazine for $10.00 each. I bit and sent in 10 Nighthawk Custom magazines (ACT MAG) in .45ACP built in 2006. Of the 10 magazines I received, three would not drop free from the mag well after the last round was fired and the slide locked back. After much dickering back and forth via email, their sales and marketing director agreed to replace the three magazines. He confirmed that the magazines were manufactured by Check-Mate Industries and that 1911 manufacturers spec their pistols to a specific brand of magazines. Check-Mate .45 ACP magazines do not run well in my Nighthawk Custom .45 ACP pistols. I received three magazines to replace the three defective magazines. I loaded them to capacity and left them to sit for three days, as recommended by the sales and Marketing Director. He opinioned that the springs in new magazines could force the follower up and expand the feed lips causing a magazine to not drop free from an open slide (this from a former Wilson sales manager, per his Linkedin account).

Of the three replacement magazines, one would not drop free. I am done with Ed brown and Check- Mate.

I don’t have any experience with these mags but for the hands down best 1911 mags are Tripp Research Cobra. I don’t recall ever having an issue with one.

I also question a magazine that flexes under its own spring pressure. I don’t know what the spec is for magazine to frame clearance but I’d bet it’s more then .020” and if that magazine moves more then that I would say you have an issue.

As I recall, Ed Brown doesn't make 10rd 9mm mags so that stopped me right there. Need 10 rd for matches.

Is my face red!! Apologies to Ed brown, Inc. After much trial and error, I placed a small rubber o-ring under the top grip screw of the right slim grip panel and all magazines now drop free from the open slide.

Noble of you to admit your error and a good tidbit of info for members. ;)
