Egret at the pond today

Sweet. We have a Blue Heron that stops at the pond out back.

Folks ask if I miss living in the Keys. Only in the winter. :D
But no, I don't too much but for a couple exceptions.
The water. The coral reef is absolutely outstanding and I'll never fall out of love with it.
And I miss the birds. My God Mother Nature was generous to the Keys. The bird life is amazing. Egrets, Herons, Parrots, Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Falcons, Pelicans, Frigates, Ibis, Cormorants (diving ducks)...
I never really considered myself a 'bird watcher' but the Florida Keys will turn you into one.

We've had one stop by before, outside of the fence. Good thing, the dogs would have tried to kill it.

Blue herons are a bane to pond owners.
They regularly kill ducklings and wound/kill large fish that they cannot possibly eat.

They rarely get accepted to rehab facilities due to thier propensity to stab folks in the eyeball.
If you ever find a wounded one, approach with EXTREME caution. They will wait until your eyes are within spearing distance and will show no mercy.

I have been training otters to attack them on site. Results are mixed.
The trick is getting the otter conditioned to sweep the safety off smoothly upon presenting the pistol.

Usually have a nesting pair or egrets on the pond next to the house every year. Last couple years we’ve had a bald eagle for about a month. Haven’t seen him this year yet
