Extended Bi-pod

Was at the range over the weekend and 2 guys were shooting prone and each of their rifles had an extended bi-pod on a round tube that was in front of the muzzle by 3 feet. First time that I have seen one. Is this common with long range shooting?

I think you are talking about the bipodxt. I have only heard of ELR shooters using them. I have never seen one in PRS comps. They are saying that getting the bipod out in front like that makes the muzzle more less when the rear support of the gun is moved. Which is a true statement.
