Factory Five Racing Roadster MkIII Build Thread (PICTURE HEAVY)

The Edelbrock setup doesn’t require the wiring nightmare ... it’s 95% self contained. I’m kinda like you on carbs are comfortable for us old school guys but after my kid and I installed the setup on his truck and I saw the increase efficiency and better streetable engine management I was sold.

I'll have to check it out, but there's something about the way a carb looks, runs and smells that just grabs me in the business.

Great looking build, @Skaufma0.

You should consider investing in some better tires once you get her close to being on the road.

Those Radial T/A's won't provide much grip once you smash the loud pedal.
I can’t remember, it’s been so long since I saw yours, are you running GoodYear billboards?

If you ever get bored with your easy peasy carb, let me know, I've got a quadrajunk I mean jet that needs some attention. Can't find anyone local who will or even knows how to tune it. It's been rebuilt but I can't get it dialed in.
If you ever have the car in Charleston, SC, I’ve a guy that has the experience and a large assortment of needed needles and jets.

That's a fantastic project and awesome work. Congrats.

I have two different sets of rims/tires.

For the old-school cool look--a set with Goodyear Billboards (look great, but are bias ply racing tires). And for v-rated radial performance and ride--a set with Avons.

Man, I wish I had that kind of talent.... and money. Sweet project!! :)

Well thanks. I was raised working on cars and that helps, but really anyone could build one of these if they’re willing to take the time and learn. Honestly it costs as much as you let it cost. I know when I got mine it was about 13k for the kit, and then you just needed an engine, transmission, rear-end, brakes, wheels and tires. You could also tweak it to come with other stuff or pre-fabricated so certain things would fit. And you could buy seats from them or get your own. There were some guys spending less than 20k all in because that’s what they could do, so they made it work.

The center console has been cut, bent, and drilled. This is what it will look like. The push button switches are blue LEDs. The open hole on the left and under the key fob will be the switches for the seat heater.

That wiring setup looks very neat and clean. Are you concerned at all about water accumulating in the receptacle for the headlight and parking light relays?

It's on the back side of the glovebox and will be sealed off from the engine compartment. Shouldn't be any moisture at all getting in there.

Seat heaters in a Cobra!?
You don't need no stinking seat heaters...the engine will provide plenty of heat in the cockpit.

Well the seats I'm using are from a Miata believe it or not (for the speakers in the headrests) and they are heated. I've run the heating system in it, but since the seats are heated I figured I might as well add that in, too. I'd rather have the option and never use them, then not have the option and want them. So far it's added about $12 and about 20 minutes of work to the project so it doesn't bother me at all.

Great looking build! It looks like you’re making steady progress too. Nice clean workmanship.

I should know this but don’t..... did the original Cobras have solid rear axles?

Thanks!

The original Cobras had independent rear suspension. If I remember right they took the design for it out of the Jaguar E-Type playbook.

EDIT>>>Actually now that I think about it they used the same rear end as the Jaguar E-Type. The Cobra's with the 289 had independent transverse leaf-spring suspension, and the ones with 427's had independent coil springs.
