I'm in the process of building up an 18" SPR that will be used to shoot 300-500 yards. I only lack a few more parts and it will be ready to become a rifle. With that said what are your favorite factory offerings for semi precision .223? Eventually I will jump into reloading rifle as I've been loading pistol for years but I'd like to start out with something factory to get a good base line. I plan to buy several to see what it likes best, thought you guys may have some suggestions.

Using a 1/8 twist 18" premium barrel from BA if that matters.

75gr Hornady TAP was the most accurate .223 factory ammo I tried, not that I tried more than maybe half a dozen non-bulk commercial offerings.

Hornady steel match with their 75gr match bullet and Hornady black with the same 75gr bullet. Imo they are the same thing just one has a steel case the other a brass.

If you need a "budget" option, try CBC 77gr OTM. Generally around 75cents per round. It's become pretty popular so it doesn't stay in stock long

You might also try Black Hills 77gr Reman/Blue Box ammo

It'll save you 34 cents a round over their Red Box "new" ammo and it's just as good in my experience

Last option:
Federal GMM with 69gr SMKs. Not quite as much oomph as the 77s at the further ranges but it's great ammo

I have not tried much factory ammo since I reload my own, but the best result with factory ammo I had in my 20" 1/8 Wylde was the Winchester black box 77gn. I got 0.77" @ 100 yards with that. Never shot it past 100 yards, though.

I think that PPU .223 75gr BTHP is underrated. My 3gun rig shoots right at 1moa with it all day long.

If im shooting my spr it is going to be either Hornady 5.56 Superformance 75gr BTHP or Black Hills mk262 77gr OTM. Those are pricey loads though.

If not rifle gas i'd avoid the superformance, little too high on the peak pressure side for middy gas and can be rough on the gun.

@The Green Heron alwasy said that the Privi in 75 BTHP was a good deal and shoots well. Best value for the money

They were good ammo in a few guns I had.

@billyh has one of my barrels that like the stuff.
