Favorite Hunting Rimfire Rifle Thread

Been looking at a 457. But really tempted by the Ruger American Rimfire to.
I’ve got both Ruger and CZ 457. Love both of them. I will admit, the CZ has a better trigger and holds tighter groups off the bench.

Nice to know. But I like the magazine interchange ability of the Rugers.
Agreed it is a very nice feature. And for hunting, the Ruger is more than adequate. Been looking at the .17 HMR recently and will most likely go Ruger again.

Before my eyesight started changing a few years ago I would have wholeheartedly chosen my Henry Youth lever action .22.

Or even the Remington Fieldmaster pump that @tanstaafl72555 let me borrow for a while.

Both were sentimental favorites.

But, my eyesight did start changing. AND I've decided that from here on out I am squirrel hunting and deer hunting at the same time.

So that brings me to the Bergara BXR Carbon that I used most of this year. Was waiting on my suppressor for the winter season, but had it for the spring season.

I still don't have the scope I want for it but the Vortex does ok for now.

Got 80+ squirrels this go around. And a coyote as well.

I mostly used CCI Standard Velocity (and still do in my regular 10-22 with youth stock) but then switched to CCI Quiet Semi-Auto once the Dead Air Mask finally got freed from jail.

I did still manage to get one or two with the Henry using iron sights and CCI .22 Short Target, but it was not a sexy affair.

Very tasty piece, love the look of that speckled stock.

We had some company over yesterday.

A fellow woodsman and his wife and two kids (10 and 13yo).

The 10 year old was fishing in our pond and caught a couple eating size bream and about a 2.5 pound bass.

The wife cooked the 3 fish for the young man to eat for supper.

The rest of us had squirrel and dumplings. Man!

Hunting squirrels is fun. Eating squirrels after my wife has had her way with them is divine!

10/22 gets the nod for most of my small game hunting. I also have a Marlin model 25 that was my first gun that has taken more than a few squirrels.

My favorite is an old Remington 581 left hand bolt action. It has a Leupold 4x28 scope and shoots quite well using CCI Standard Velocity.

Second place goes to a Frankenstein 10/22 with a lightweight Butler Creek barrel, 4x scope and all that remains of the stock Ruger parts is the safety and receiver.
