I understood what you meant - I was being somewhat scarcatic. But it does seem that more Americans are willing to compromise our culture to be "accepting" of any immigrant group. Whatever happened to legal immigrants coming to America because they wanted to be Americans (like our grandparents and great Great grands)? Now they come and want to change America!!
I addressed this in another thread. The mindset of the immigrant is not entirely internally derived. It is influenced by the host country.
Think about it this way. Take identical twins raised in the same environment. They both move abroad for the same reasons. One emigrates to Country A, the other to Country B.
Country A has a proud culture and demands that anyone who is allowed in must meet certain criteria - e.g., oral/written fluency in the host language, demonstrated ability to earn a living in the host's economy, knowledge of the country's history, its founding documents/constitution, maybe even an IQ test (yes, the horror that a country might not want to mass import low IQ people), etc. There is an expectation that you fit in and do your part to make the country better, because coming there is a privilege they are granting you.
Country B is full of people who are ashamed of the country. In fact, the country's leader's wife expressed how ashamed she was of the country. The country's academia and media constantly belittle the country's history and point out only the mistakes. The country doesn't expect you to speak/read/write the language; in fact, they will create forms, signage, etc., in your language. They don't care if you can earn a living or not because they will give you money. If you need help navigating the immigration process, they will pay for a lawyer to help you. Because you see, you are doing them a favor by coming there because they feel it is their place to welcome anyone who seeks to come. And if you don't want to bother with the legal process, feel free to break the law and enter illegally - and if you're going to do that, might as well be pregnant so that you can have a child immediately after entering as they will grant your child full citizenship rights as well as lots of welfare. And so on.
Now those identical twins may have the same mindset going in, but I guarantee you that they will end up seeing and treating their new home countries and its inhabitants differently.
