I got my NC driver's license today. That killed my IL license which in turn killed my right to carry on the IL FCCL. I was expecting to feel like I've lost some weight, but no I'm fatter than ever thanks to Midwood Smokehouse. The extra space in my wasteband has been occupied by my personal girth. (sigh)

I still need to register my car(s). If my vehicles are jointly owned by my wife and I do we both need to go to the license plate place, or can I do it myself? Both names are on the titles.
Do I have to have my hard card, or can I do this with the paper temp license I got today?

Don't know if you'll both have to go, but I am going to hazard a guess that it depends on where you go and who you get for a clerk, if you catch my meaning. I would also guess that your temp license would suffice because there is a time limit to get this completed, 30 days I believe.

One thing that you WILL need, if you haven't gotten already is a (temporary) form from your insurance company stating that you have in state coverage.

You can open carry.

Now after you get the tags and car insurance sorted out, start on the concealed handgun permit. Get the class out of the way and the appointment with the sherrif done. Then the waiting starts.

While you wait save your ice cream money and any other funds you can lay yer grubby mitts on. Then the fun begins.

One last thing. Welcome. Vote republican. Vote ever chance you get.

Is it a IL law that once you get another state’s drivers license it automatically revokes your IL FCCL? Or is it IL law that you must carry a valid IL drivers license for your IL FCCL to be valid? I ask because NC law recognizes all states concealed carry permit. If your IL is still valid you may be ok. Would be worth following up with your local sheriff’s office for clarification.

I don't ever remember needing my wifes signature on out registrations. And your temp license should be as good as the real one, since it is a real one. And whoever mentioned it depends on the clerk is not wrong.

In NC you have to have insurance to get a license, and you have to have a license to get insurance. How easy it is to dance around that nonsense depends on who you get as a partner. But someone has to give in.

Must be local office thing or something because in over 50 years of dealing with car insurance and licenses I have never had an insurance company ask me about if it was licensed or not. As a matter of fact, I usually just call them and say, I'm buying this car, VIN number and such, and add it to my policy. Get to DMV, give them the number and go. Now, you had better turn the plates in before you call to remove the insurance.

Iirc the IL permit would have to be a nonresident for nc to recognize it since he is now a nc resident

It's IL law that once I change residence out of state I no longer qualify for an Illinos FCCL. The NC drivers license triggers the change in residency.

Even this isn't a workable solution for NC. NC doesn't report voluntary mental health admissions so they won't come up on background check. That eliminates them/us from being eligible for a Non-Resident IL FCCL. Only 4-6 places are. Even if NC was eligible, I'd have to re-train (16 hours, $150) and re-apply ($150) and then wait 120+ days for it to process...they don't care that I did all that once as a resident, nor that I renewed once. Tyrants.
