Full disclosure, it was 36* and my knees & back were aching like hell, but I couldn't just come back in.
If I were younger, I'd probably hang a hammock or something and stay outside all night with the dogs keeping me company.
Booze helps with the aches...
*shut up liver, you'll be okay*

I’ll be firing up the fire bowl again now that the weather is cooperating!!

No fire bowl here, but I did just get this propane fire pit. Loving it so far. I’d love a fire bowl, but I’m on a postage stamp lot in Cary... Plus, this is easy to turn on, and doesn’t make my clothes smell.

For the record, I’d rather have a fire bowl, but this will do. [emoji3]

I have a gas fire pit/table on the porch. many a gathering happens around it. I prefer a real fire pit , but have been camping lately with guys with the stainless steel SOLO stove/fire pit. I must say it is kinda mesmerizing, is virtually smoke free (your clothes wont stink), but lacks the radiant heat from the bed of coals. but makes it real nice to be able to sit close without feeling like your shins are burning...I am trying to convince myself I don't want one...

I’ve seen those advertised, and have wondered what the big deal is. Sounds pretty cool!

We have a burn barrel....but I kick myself for never getting one of those firebowls made every time I see someone posting a pic. However I found an older smaller maybe 50-100lb propane tank washed down the creek on our property yesterday so......I have a use for it.
Maybe a 'mini' firebowl

I think the main advantage over your store bought ones is everything :D

thicker metal, retains heat, looks better when rusted (patina...) etc. Don't have to dig a hole in the ground. Not exposed to any chemicals (we use "steel shot" burn barrels) other than wood smoke.

I meant the SOLO... Or is that what you were referring to?

The SOLO is a glorified and expensive rocket stove. Uses internal airflow to heat up and secondary combust the wood smoke, just like newer model woodstoves and inserts.
I was referring to the plain old gas-bottle-bottom Firebowls which used to be sold or carried by a forum member I think. I have a welder friend, so maybe I could convince him to make a huge rocket stove instead :D

Last I saw the gent that makes them still had a bunch left.

I’m on deck next.

Although I made my own from an old 500 gallon propane tank, the old guy that makes a lot of these is located on Deep River Road on the north side of Sanford. He is not on the forum but several members here have purchased from him.

Here is a link to one of the threads with the manufacturer’s contact info. I really like the smaller bowl in some of the pix. Mine is a dozen or so posts down in the thread.

I went by about a year ago and Earl gave me a tour of the place, he had many fire bowls stacked high.

My wife surprised me with this a couple of weeks ago. I came home from work Friday evening and there it was. She did most of the work herself, just a little help spreading the gravel and unloading the block.20191025_173421.jpg
