Has anyone attempted to replace a broken firing pin on a TriStar Upland Hunter O/U? Is a boxlock a nightmare to open up? I've been handed one that belongs to one of my bandmembers and have been asked to replace the bottom pin. I have the correct firing pin , as sent by the company, but I have never diddled with an O/U. Just wondering if I can get by with common sense/unabashed determination/mechanical aptitude, all without destroying my friend's weapon or should I seek the help of a professional? Wait....isn't that what I'm doing now by asking you fellas?

You'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen? I'm not a professional, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Carefully remove the butt plate/recoil pad and then the stock bolt. With the bolt removed, DO NOT grab the receiver and attempt to separate them. Lay the buttstock and the receiver on a flat, padded surface and using a rubber hammer hit the end of the buttstock and the receiver should slide forward off the buttstock. Reassembly is basically reverse but no hammer. Seat the receiver into the buttstock and gently mate the two surfaces. Be patient until the stock bolt pulls them together, replace the pad and drink a beer in victory...
PS: Your "Buddy" should be mowing your grass while you replace the pin so time yourself to his completion...

Thanks BB for the tutorial. It would seem that I may be on the losing end of this operation! If he wasn't such a good banjo/dobro picker, I probably wouldn't even consider doing it. Are there any retaining pins to tap out or remove in this process?

Not intimately familiar with the internals of that particular gun. Sorry..
Once you have the receiver detached if you want to call me and possible text a pic I'll be happy to see what it may require. I'll Pm you my number...

It shouldn't be that bad. They a very simple guns inside. If you are worried about it take a picture of where everything goes before you disassmble anything besides removing the wood. I have been in a few OU and theg are simple.
