Started hunting archery last year after I traded some 223 ammo for a cheap Martin Threshold compound bow. I rigged it up with some cheap 3 pin sights, and some other stuff I got on clearance. Its a 70lb draw weight with 75% letoff. Got a summer's worth of practice in and felt good about taking shots on live game. Last year i got the chance to whack a doe in October but we never recovered it.

This year I havent been practicing as much as I should mostly due to the heat. But I sat Sunday night in my backyard stand and took a few shots at my bag target at dark and hit my mark so I felt good.

Fast forward to tonight. Got home late, around 5:45PM and went straight to another stand close to the house. Sat there in my work clothes and waited til Sunset @ 6:46. I used the primos can call every 10 mins and the wind was blowing from my left to right. Heard something in the woods to my left for 15 mins snapping twigs. I kept with the can call, and at 7pm i saw something move thru brush to my left.

Clipped my release on and got ready to draw. He came in fast and I had about 5 secs to decide. I never saw anything but a deer body at 25yds with his nose down, and had to shoot between pines.

Heard the whack! Saw the lighted nock hit And heard him run thru and crashing immediately to my right about 50yds. I waited 10 mins and had to check at the shot site for blood. Nothing.

So I went back to the house, ate dinner and waited 45 mins. Took my sons with me and found the arrow pretty easy, but no sign of blood except on the arrow. Dark liver blood.

We followed the way he was going until the field opened up, and started scanning the field for the deer. It looked up at my son and laid back down. Had to dispatch it with a .38+p HP but it is now in the cooler.

Not a trophy to anyone but me [emoji16]

Very nice. The trophy is meat to eat, skins to tan, and sinew for thatching heads, fletching feathers, sewing and other shenanigans.

The only person it NEEDS to matter to is you :) CONGRATS. Reading that took me back to my first archery kill as well. It is a powerful experience. Well done enjoy the reward.

Btw- I used those lighted nocks too loved them. Made it real easy for arrow recovery and to start the blood trail tracking.
