I've been deer hunting for about 20 years, shot a few does and a small 7pt, nothing worth a story. I'm more into sitting in the stand and relaxing, if I see deer great, if not no problem. This was Saturday morning, almost slept in until my buddy sent me a wake up text, lol.

It happened quick as this stand is on the power line and has a lot of area to scan, he must have been on a doe trail and took a few loud yells to get stopped. 140-150 yard shot with the 120gr SST, not a good bullet for meat as it blew up both front shoulders. He crashed about 50 yards away in the brush, took a bit to find him and get him out. 10pt, was about 175lbs, big deer for our area and lease. His tarsal glands were black so he must be in post rut. Our big rut was the 2 weeks of Thanksgiving. Dropping him off for a mount tomorrow.

2017 was a great year, got engaged and shot this big boy!

I have the exact same story, except my doesn't end with a nice buck. Congratulations, that is nice!!

LOL, I know the feeling. I could have tagged out every year with small bucks and does but have been waiting for something like this, payed off. The small bucks I let walk are usually shot by the next guy, hope we go to a 6pt or better rule for 2018. That is the only way you are going to see more big ones.

That is a nice deer.

Nice deer, congrats!

No bucks unless rack is outside the ears. That’s how my club does it. First mistake is free, every mistake after is $100 fine.

Nice buck. Congrats.

Nice deer fer sure!! Congrats

What load was you using? Both my deer this year were taken with 110gr Accubond but out of an 18” ARP barrel in 6.8

Congrats man...certainly one to be proud of!

Nice deer.

nice man. nice to know they're still chasing does this late in the season.

I hauled what was left of 2 deer carcasses into the woods today and walked over 2 fresh scrapes. Had not seen one all deer season. Go figure. The buck I shot had dark tarsals and still stank too. And I think he was freshening up a scrape right before I saw him the first time. He was making a lot of racket like something rummaging in the leaves and I saw it while I was dragging him out. Been an odd year.
