I am an accumulator and not a collector. I've broken in a lot of formerly NIB / collector grade guns by carrying and shooting them. It just seems wrong to let them sit. But, I broke that rule tonight.

Just bought a NIB Smith & Wesson 3914 that was once part of S&W Historian Roy Jinks's personal collection. It has a very low serial number, as was typical of guns specially built for VIPs. Comes with the paperwork showing that he picked it up at work (the factory) and some other documents. Original box, docs, unopened cleaning kit, etc.

I've only recently developed my interest in these 3rd Generation Smiths but I've been a longtime admirer of Roy Jinks and his work on behalf of Smith & Wesson collectors. You might recognize his name from the bottom of most any S&W factory letter. Gun won't be here for a week or so. Pics to follow. :)

You lucky dog. I am a 3rd gen S&W whore. So when you want to meet up and shoot some 3rd gens? I need to sample a 3914, you know before I buy another one. :p

You know you're gonna shoot that gun and let Roy's palm sweat soak into the palm of your hand...you know you are. You can't help it. Part of the addiction. o_O

I think everyone that knows you realizes not shooting this gun will cause you all sorts of issues. Probably night sweats, dizzy spells, blurred vision, dry mouth, etc. etc. [emoji14]
Can't wait to see it!! (on the range) [emoji33]

Naah. I'll be okay not shooting it. Just bought a DAO 3914 last week. In fact, carried that one today. That'll be my beater [emoji4]
Here is the DAO NYPD 3914

I'll probably be at Firepower this weekend. You're welcome to shoot the DAO 3914. Have a 4553 showing up later this week or early next too. Looking forward to a compact .45 that's not a 1911 (not that there is anything wrong with those [emoji846]).

Ha. I don't think he fired it. Should be NIB or close to it. I will post it on the S-WForum and, maybe with a little poking and prodding, I can get him to visit the thread. Of course, if he posts in the thread it will get printed and dropped in the box with the other docs.

Congrats on landing a once-in-a-lifetime gun. "Somehow", I knew it must have been you bidding as I watched the auction roll along. Since the gun still has the inspector's sticker, it is very unlikely it was shot outside the factory. Mine, that Roy sadly never touched, has a similar sticker. As I've read, Roy initially got paid for his work in guns, yours being one.

I was thinkin' about the auction yesterday, imagining you'd win the gun and that you'd eventually shoot it. I came up with a plan to offer you my "normal" NIB 3914 example and some cash as a trade to keep the Roy Jink's version from getting shot. I'm glad you got the gun @Prosecutor.

Now, I need to somehow find the gun they made for Jack Webb. :D

It may be 12 lbs. Have not measured. It does not feel that heavy. Feels standard. Just DAO.

I'm still trying to understand how you're able to make those 3rd generation Smiths run 38 Special ammo. o_O

Looks Nice! What holster did you go with?

The holster in the picture works just fine, it is a SideGaurd minimal clip. I need to pick up something with two points of contact, maybe a Milt Sparks or Lobo.

To me, a revolver or pistol with honest wear and character is a whole lot more attractive and interesting than a NIB example. Just think of all the places that 3914 has been.

I can't disagree. I have some NIB guns that will remain that way. On the other hand, I also have a couple WWII bring-backs. Each time I touch one I wonder about the people who held it before me. Fascinating stuff.

A gun with good honest wear always has a story to tell.

Congrats--I saw that auction; this is a nice score!

I am a big fan of the S&W 3rd Generation Performance Center pistols (they put out some very nice firearms back in the day).

Yall ain't nuthing. I've got a S&W Value Line 908 with original box and papers that was once owned by esteemed CFF member edwardyoung

I manned up and shot it plus replaced the original plastic sights with a set of Trijicon Tritium Night Sights.
