So I'm looking to buy a long range rifle. I want something mostly for match style shooting not hunting capable of shooting 1k yds, chambered in 6.5CM and around $1k. I've been looking at the Bergara B-14 HMR its $950 or so, the savage Stealth its $850 & the Thompson center performance center LRR its $1K. Am I missing one I should be looking at? Anyone have experience with these? any advice is appreciated.

I'll be buying the Sig Cross in 6.5CM, but that's going to be a hair over your limit.

I can second a Tikka T3x or Bergara B-14. Darn near all of my friends have one or the other. I have yet to see one of either that wouldn’t shoot one ragged hole at 100 and insane groups at longer ranges.

……. I hear great things about some factory rifles such as the Ruger Precision, Tikka's and Bergara's……. But from my experience you can't beat reloading your own ammunition combined with a built rifle. You don't have to go overboard...…. if you have a decent rifle with a decent stock already, it might not cost as much as you think to have it accuraized. True or Blueprint the action, bed the action, install a good trigger if it doesn't have one and have a good barrel fitted...... Absolute night and day from a factory rifle to one that has been improved. Factory ammunition is probably more consistent than it's ever been but it's generally not as consistent as your own loaded rounds.

The T3x Tac A1 with the grab a quote is only $1500 thats a pretty solid deal it looks like.

Also..Savage makes a bench rest or F class model. They got great mostly god reviews when they came out around 10 years or so ago.

If you plan on competing suggest you get a heavier weight barrel with as long a barrel as the rifles you are looking at offer, at least 26" if possible. Have a smith check the headspace and crown as soon as you get it. Have the rifle bedded by a competent person. A trigger job would be nice.

So Mrs ZBizzle911 pretty much gave me the go ahead to buy the Tikka tonight. Well she didn't say no so thats a yes right? lol Anyways I'll probably order one in the next few weeks. Then to save for some good glass for it.

Im also looking at the bergara. Also the savage desert tactical. Having a hard time deciding. Glad to see someone else from Midway on the forum though.

Smart woman. Surely she realized not saying no increases her chances of hitting the jackpot this Friday (Valentines Day). ;)

Theres actually several on here from NorDaCo maybe we can get together and shoot sometime

Skip the Savage and Ruger. The Bergara is a great starting rifle. It is a Rem700 footprint, accepts Rem700 triggers, and utilizes AICS pattern magazines. This is important if you want to try different stocks and or triggers. Tikka makes a great rifle, and is making strong inroads into the aftermarket accessories market, but the standard is Rem700 and AICS pattern mags. Tikka's CTR magas are $90 each

For $1500 I'd personally be looking at building a Remage in a KRG Bravo chassis for more long term flexibility.

If you do go Tikka I will HIGHLY recommend getting on the list for a Sterk swept bolt handle. I put one on my T1X and it made a HUGE difference on the bolt cycle speed!

Which one has a better stock for hunting the bergara b14 HMR or the tikka t3ctr? Mine will primarly be for hunting and prs/long range shooting after that.

Of the two I feel the Bergara has the higher quality stock with more features (Adj cheek piece & LOP, flush cups, and mini-chassis), but it comes at the cost of weight (9.5lbs). The Tikka CTR stock is just a higher end plastic stock similar to what comes on the the T1X. It's probably the nicest most modular plastic stock out there though!! I'm dropping my T1X in a KRG this year, and if you go Tikka I would recommend the same route for $370

I feel like the grip angle on the tikka lends itself to most hunting situations better.

They look almost identical to me:

Tikka does make a more traditional angled grip that you can swap out in under 5 min

I have an RPR and a Bergara B14 BMP. Both are great. Both shoot better than I do - easily sub-MOA with good ammo. I prefer the Bergara. But if you are looking for a "starter" rifle for PRS style shooting (not just bench) and want to stay at or near that $1K, don't write off the RPR so quick.

My point is that the rifle is only one part of the equation. The necessary or desired accessories are not cheap and are not usually included - except on the RPR. As an example, my Bergara and my RPR cost about the same money out of the box. But the RPR came with a 20 MOA rail. The Bergara did not, so add $100 to the Bergara cost. And the RPR came with a brake. Not the Bergara so add another $100 to the Bergara. The RPR came with a bottom rail to mount a bipod. Not the Bergara so add another $30 to the Bergara. The RPR came with an adjustable trigger. Actually, so did the Bergara, but that stock trigger sucked rear end and went straight in the trash can after the second range trip, so add $150-$200 to the Bergara.

In the end, get what you like. But if the price is a big factor, make sure you are comparing apples to apples with what you will be getting for your $$$, because those accessories are gonna add up quick.

I've got a CTR in .308 . The biggest complaint I have relative to the stock is the need for a stock pack or some other prop to get a cheek weld with a scope. Otherwise, darn nice rifle.

Since it has Japanese lenses I'd bet it's made in the LOW factory where lots of really impressive scopes come from. I've got a Sig Tango6 3-18 that came out of that factory and it cost considerably more...yet looks strikingly similar.
