About 10 years ago I bought (traded) for a Mossberg 500 12 GA Combo shotgun. It came with 2 different barrels and a regular stock as well as a pistol grip. Took it home, put on the shorter barrel and the pistol grip then stuck it in the closet. Never shot the gun.
Last night on one of the gun shows they were talking about the Mossberg Shock wave and Remington new stock shotgun and then mention the Mossberg with the pistol grip. They were saying that the newer shotguns were easier to shoot than the pistol grip. Had to find out myself so today I made a trip to the range.

Normally I keep some "Low Recoil" 00 buck shot in the gun. I grabbed some Duck loads (#5 Max 2 2/3") that I reload years ago and the 00 buck shot. I was thinking that the #5 would be much easier to shoot. I was wrong! After 5 shots of the #5 I put them up for the 00 buck shot.

I have never shot the Mossberg Shock wave but that pistol was NOT pleasant to shoot more than a couple.

I have read that the thing that makes the shockwave and the other "new" pistol grip type shotguns pleasant to shoot is the bird heads grip. I think it is all in the angle of the dangle.

I have a pistol grip for my 590, never installed. Maybe somebody has a source for the bird head grip?

Had a Shockwave Raptor grip on my Mossy 500 for years before they came out with the 14” AOW. Love it. Huge improvement over the factory wrist breaker pistol grip. Holds like a real shotgun, minus the stock.
