My daughter has graduated and she is a big knife fan. She asked me if she could carry a fixed blade in her car legally...I figured id ask you guys what you think. Is there a maximum blade length, overall length? As always, I thank you guys in advance for your help.

I have them in all my cars. Right in the driver door pocket. All have blades over 5 inches. Never had any issues. "Just a kinfe in my door pocket if ever asked"

https://www.ncleg.gov/EnactedL...tion/Chapter_14/GS_14-269.html
§ 14-269. Carrying concealed weapons.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person willfully and intentionally to carry concealed about his or her person any bowie knife, dirk, dagger, slung shot, loaded cane, metallic knuckles, razor, shuriken, stun gun, or other deadly weapon of like kind, except when the person is on the person's own premises.

Would depend on someone's interpretation of "about her person".

NC knife laws are for the most parts clear as mud. The LEO’s interpretation will be the factor in how “concealed weapon” is viewed. The term thrown around about knives is “ordinary pocketknife” when talking about concealing a knife. In a vehicle a tucked away fixed blade knife could be considered a concealed weapon and even our NC Concealed Handgun Permits do not cover a fixed blade knife ... or a t-ball bat, tire billy club, etc ... for some reason they are more dangerous than a gun??? That is my take on NC knife laws and carrying ...

I will say I have a Mora Companion 4” fixed bladed in my kit in the back of my truck for use as a tool if needed (not within reach) and a Zero Tolerance assisted opening knife clipped in my front pocket as the knives in my vehicle.

by definition it isn’t concealed, it’s just in the car for when I’m walking in the woods. The sheath is even dirty.

I figure if I get drunk and take a swing at a cop then I may have teoubles, otherwise nobody will care.

I keep several knives in my truck along with a couple different hatches etc along with some other stuff.

Never know when the need may arise.
A hatchet is a “tool” ... kinda like years back outlaw bikers would be pulled and searched for weapons like knives, saps, etc and arrested for such. But due to riding a bike that “might need to be worked on” they carry tool kits with screwdrivers and better yet a ball peen hammer ... and you know they’d only used that stuff to work on their bikes :D.

I keep a 28" machete in the trunk for business.

I have a few throwaway moras in the car too. Nothing I would care about losing stays in the car.

Got a ESEE in my car now (well, it's a KA-BAR, but made by ESEE

i got a benchmade mini loco and a proelia 3.5" fixed blade in the car but im starting to feel under knife'd:confused:

Keep a mora in the door panel for easy grabbing and something more substantial in the glovebox for skinning. I was pulled once and the officer fussed that I didn't mention it when he asked me to step out of the vehicle. He informed me that it was a weapon and he should know about weapons within my reach but that was all that was said about it.

The Spyderco Bow River would be a good car carry fixed blade. Not too big, not too small and doesn't appear tacticool/threatening. I have a couple of them and they have proven to be a good outdoor blade and general use knife. The only down side to this knife is the 8Cr13 steel but it sharpens easily when it gets dull.

Would these be considered a knife? Maybe a letter opener;) A guy I know that owns a business stated making these a while back. Not sure if he does anymore or not though

Nice SHIV........ comment from wife after seeing.

Cold steel has made basic zytel blades and darts for years. Those look nice though and way more useful.

I've had a Glock field knife in the door pocket for years. A whole lot of knife for the money.
