Just curious who prefers running a fixed front vs the flip up. I've got two budget ARs with a fixed FSB (PSA and Aero); one has a fixed DD rear and the other a Troy folder. I absolutely prefer the flip up rear, but I ended up putting together a higher end build with flip ups and I gotta say I miss having the fixed front sight.

I'll likely toss this one in the parts box and try to find a deal on a Scalarworks Peak front sight. No sight tool would be cool.

I've never had any issue with optics, the front sight seems to kinda be neither seen nor heard anyways, like a good Milford man.

It's not what the cool kids do but I'm with the above (not saying you're not cool Average dad). I do like a fixed front sight.

My franken AR does not have any irons, but it's kind of a test bed for new gear.

Depends on the system end use, if its a home defense firearm like my new 300BLKOUT then no sights at all, optic only. If its a RDS carbine then I want a FSP. If its a LPVO then flip up's are fine.

Absolutely for LPVO I would go with flip-ups. That's actually why I went this route as I plan to get an optic, but currently just using a RDS.

There is a need for a FSP in unorthodox shooting positions and a RDS. That is easier to do then not having the FSP. Plus one can use the RDS body as a largest rear aperture ever if the battery ever dies.

Side note, if you place the flip-up front sight far onto the handguard, spend some time to understand the POA-POI shift you will have in sling, and barricade support.

I don't care one way or the other. The SAM-R I used had a LVPO (before they were called that lol) and there were some with and without the FSP. Same with recce rifles. But I'd say with ration with both were like 8 without to 2 with.

I love a fixed front site on all my rifles with non-magnified optics. Fixed front folding rear, I particularly like the fixed DD front if the rifle doesnt have a fsgb.

On rifles with magnified optics I don't even bother with irons, prefer an offset/top mounted red dot.

I like the look of the magpul pros but wish they locked in place.

PA was running a deal on the Midwest Industries fixed front for $36. Went back up to 50-something. Should have snagged it. The Scalarworks stuff is pretty Gucci tho, I dig em.

Fixed front sights, all day, every day, if it is possible.

You will ALWAYS have a stable, functional front sight to work with any rear sight option you choose, and in most cases an A2 Front sight also means a pinned gasblock.

I also refuse not to have a back up to an optic is those are in use aswell.

I get the poa-poi shift with rail mounted front sights while using slings and supports, is that why a fsp helps in unorthodox positions or is there some other reason(s)?

Nope.

RDS is parallax free 50yds + "quality"
China brands can be 100yds or more "fyi"

Parallax can at worst equal 4 MOA from POA/POI shift

What does this mean in reality:

You are now in gunfight, moved to a shit position, trying like hell to get a LOS on this asshole's ankle under your cover "a car". A FSP can get you center of optic and remove parallax POI shift and allow the mobility kill.

When you blast his feet, he falls, as soon as his Mellon bounces off the asphalt, co-witness RDS on FSP send 4.

Work done, move to the next victim.

Interesting. The front sight helping to alleviate parallax issues in weird positions had never occurred to me.
Another nice little nugget from you.

1/3rd mounts, can play hell on this. LOL

Practice, practice, practice.

The FSP helps because its a reference point that is fixed in your LOS, no matter your odd angle, or situation.

Ya I'll prob end up throwing on a Scalarworks Peak front sight. I'm still playing around with this upper and equipment arrangement.

I really appreciate the discourse on the topic. I felt like I was an outlier but it seems like a lot of people are starting to reverse course and go back to a FSP.
