This is just a general question for those that browse their local flea market.

Are firearms sales allowed at the flea market in your area ?

Mike

Yes, here in Hickory. Long guns only.

Another member frequents the small pawn shops as he travels for work,
he finds great deals that way.

In terms of legality, I'm not aware of any statewide prohibition of it and municipalities are preempted from making gun laws.

That being said, I would be extremely leery of buying a gun at a flea market. One reason is the sketchy nature of the markets. Two, if they're engaged in the business of selling they had better have an FFL, and I suspect most flea market sellers would rely upon private transactions.

None at my local markets, seen a few on tables around Mt Airy markets in the past though.

There is a few folks at the cattle sale here in Wilkes county that have mostly older hunting rifles and a few newer ones. Most are priced like they are brand new but no handguns

Long guns in Burke. Some pistol mags that I rummaged through too.

Yeah, I’m with you on this one. Flea market guns sounds to me like the ATF trying to find another Weaver family.

No. Mostly good old boys who scrounge the local shops and want ads for mostly hunting rifles and shotguns to take to the flea market. ATF has talked with some of them from time to time about their needing an FFL. That caused some of them to quit, but there are still some who do it. I see them buying from pawn shops around here, so at least those guns have had the numbers run.

It is an old tradition that predates GCA ‘68 and some of these guys were doing it back then. It is a practice that will die out as the old gun traders die out. You saw a whole lot more of it 20 years ago. By golly, you could find some guns at flea markets back then. Now, it will be a table or two scattered here and there.

Leave it to an internet forum to sidetrack a thread.
I didn't ask about the advisability or legalities of buying firearms at any flea market.

The question was ;

Are firearms sales allowed at the flea market in your area ?

In other words , Does your local flea market allow firearms sales on their premises ?

Well...to be fair..."allow firearms sales" leads to a discussion around legalities. :p

(But I get it...you're simply wanting to know if the property owner allows it to happen)

Used to be an ole flea market type guy that was friends with my dad that would come around every so often and trade. He had rabbit dogs, guns, liquor, maybe some work horse harness just whatever he had swapped for and he thought that the person he was going to see would be interested in. We used to go to his place sometimes with dads junk too. He had tons of long guns he would sell or swap. My dad traded him a few cows for a nice Weatherby 30-06 one time. I still have a few guns that came from him 20-30 years ago. Man I miss the ole days, wish I would have paid more attention.

We we’re talking about it today at BBQ Joes.
Funny, I was talking about it at lunch.
Someone brought up Reuben sandwiches, and I said that was the best one I'd ever had.
Thanks for everything, man. Including something as simple as introducing me to a place that I'd never have thought of or KNOWN of.
I dont go to that area, though it aint that far, and I'd never have guessed such good dang food would be in there!

The flea market in Washington has some for sale now and again. I have seen and bought parts at the one in Rocky Mount but the one in New Port has a sign prohibiting the sale of firearms. At least it did the last time I was there.

I'm a vendor at Newport. I was there the day an incident happened that caused those signs to go up.

Not only did the flea market handle it wrong , they lied about it.

Never heard what happened. I have a cousin who went several times and told me about firearms for sale so I went but the sign was there the day I went.

Never heard what happened.

There is a vendor there named Tommy , in the back , inside , in a wheelchair. Tommy had a table full of guns. A school age boy was looking at the guns & Tommy made the remark "Buy one of my guns & you can take it to school & shoot the place up". This was right after one of the shootings that was in the news. Well , the kids mother heard that comment & she went off , called the law.
The whole place was swarmed by the Carteret County Sheriffs Office. There was a long pow wow with the SO , Flea market management , and of course Tommy.

When the signs went up , John the manager told me that he had a "cease & desist" order to not allow firearms sales.
I asked to see that order & John said he'd show it to me , he never has and he never will because that order is a lie.

The vendor Tommy Dean is still there.

Mike

I was wondering if Smiley's Flea Market up there in Fletcher NC still allows firearms sales on their premises , does anyone know for sure ?

Mike

bought my last gun at a yard sale.
single-shot .410. $40.

there's a song about it.
lol.

Unless that sushi comes from the 5-Star Gas Station out in Saxapahaw (right, @DCGallim ? haha - so good, Im taking someone there tomorrow!)
I think I ate there years ago and the food was exceptional. Is it a little ass country store run by hippies in the middle of BFE?

It's the closest place to me that sells decent food - and beer. Also check out The Eddy in the same complex for a more restaurant/bar ambiance but similar food. I've heard they have shared the same chefs.

Some of my favorites at the SGS are the goat burger and the Shmancy pizza. Had shrimp and grits the other day. Yum. I go there at least once a week.

That sounds like the place. I was in the area dropping off a horse for a lady and was couldn't believe my luck when I realized lunch would be more than nabs from the gas station. Beautiful country in that part of the state as well.
