I usually shoot PMC Bronze .223 in my AR's. Some of it is FMJ and some is FMJ-BT. I'm just a casual shooter, not really that good, I don't compete, and I'm almost always within 75 yards. Honestly, I cannot tell a difference in accuracy or any other characteristic between these two projectiles. Can any of you actually see a difference in these two, and if so, under what circumstances?

The boat tail bullet design should help with long range accuracy as the shape of the bullet is more conducive to reducing drag and having a better ogive. Inside of 100, I'd say the differences between the two are negligible. When you start pushing beyond 300, or start shooting in any wind, you'll see the difference.

At 75yds, no measurable difference. At 300yds+, definitely.

Just because they say boat tail it might not be good. The base might be open and uneven. Pull one to find out.

Edit: @Grim and I ate the same breakfast too!

“It depends”

I shoot some VMax ammo that isn’t boat tailed and it’s dead nuts <300yds

As stated above, the boat tail is designed for improving medium to long range performance
