Got one about this time last year. IMO it’s the best duty size pistol I own. Reliable, accurate and loaded with features right out of the box. It is also the best suppressor host in a handgun platform I’ve shot, and mine has been 100% reliable with a can on it.

Mine replaced a Glock as my nightstand gun and is currently wearing a Holosun 508T, SureFire x300, and a Rugged Obsidian 9, that paired with the 24rnd mag makes for a pretty decent bump in the night gun.

Sweet! Got a serious hankering for one so I think I need scratch that itch.

Thanks @Derek8404. I've been looking at one of these myself. How is the trigger on yours and has it improved with use? I've heard mixed reviews on that in particular.

It’s not bad for a what it is, definitely better than Glock, but not as good as a Walther or Canik. I’ve honestly not felt the need to do any improvements to it yet.

Did FN get the firing pin breakage issue fixed, or is it still best to replace the factory firing pin with and aftermarket titanium one?

Mcarbo springs and Apex trigger bring it on par with both those but then you have an extra $150 or so in the gun

Yeah, I’ve debated putting those in, but I don’t know that it’s worth $150. The trigger isn’t bad by any means, it’s just not spectacular.

@dforce183 I don’t know how close they are to you, but there are 2 very good deals on 509T’s in the BST right now.

I have a 509T and it's a love hate relationship. The stock trigger is absolute garbage, the shoe is soft weak plastic that flexes compounded by the hinged safety which makes a horrible trigger even worse. However the Apex trigger is phenomenal. I actually had one installed when I bought my 509T as I'd shot one many times before and the trigger was a deal breaker. Manny at Palm Beach Tactical had the Apex in stock and installed it before I left the shop.

I did upgrade the striker as well. I didn't want to chance the striker breaking, I dry fire a lot, so the striker was a concern.

The RDO mounting system is ok, they say not to use locktite, but I can tell you that if you shoot a lot, you're gonna need blue locktite on the RDO mounting screws. You only need a tab, but that will solve the issue of the RDO coming loose.

The pistol is fairly consistent for me, but not as consistent as my VP9s or p320s. The 509T just isn't as forgiving as the HK or Sigs, but it's a great pistol packed with features.

I bought a 502 (.22 which is very close to the same size as the 509) and have put thousands of rounds through it. The 502 can't be ignored as it's a great trainer for the 509T.

If ya want one, get it, but know it has some issues that should be addressed (IMHO). It's a solid addition to the safe.

Very very much appreciate the in-depth, that’s what I love to see. I snagged a pdp to replace my ppq m2, and saw one of these fns and just thought cool!! I don’t mind the upgrades though. Tough choice!!

Can't go wrong with the PDP. Great pistol, great trigger... almost as good as the VP9. ;)

If the PDP had been in the shop when I picked up the 509, I'd have most likely taken it home instead of the 509, but this was years ago, well before the PDP was released.

Of course if you're divided on the issue, just get both! lol

I like the way you think!!

I had one back around 2018 or so. Awful pistol. Many small issues. No major breakages but the gun needed work. FN‘s CS was totally disinterested in helping. I got rid of it. they’re overpriced for what it is.

with respect to pistols, FN is just lost. in 2 years they’ll have another steaming pile to replace the 509.

I’d be willing to bet you on that, the 509 series isn’t going anywhere. I would also disagree on being overpriced. You’re getting an optics ready pistol with quality tritium suppressor height sights and a threaded barrel. You’d be hard pressed to find another pistol out there with those features for that price.
