I sat in this forum and debated with you, bantered, and argued about the fundamental "Right to keep and bear arms"...for all free men. Some told me I forfeited my rights, some tried to help, some even told me..."you'll probably never need a firearm for home defense". Well...last night I couldn't have ever been in more need of that fundamental "Right". As we lay asleep last night, someone randomly targeted my home. For what reason I do not know. Was it someone from my rocky past, was it just some ignorant teens, I do not know. My wife's car was shot to bits, my work truck, and ultimately...my home. My wife in utter fear was not wanting to get out of bed, and telling me to stay in bed. I had to get up and check on my 15 year old step daughter, and 13 year old step son. Thank God Almighty no one was hurt. My family never committed no crimes, they don't deserve this. The criminals that did this...they didn't have a problem obtaining a firearm. The stupid "gun laws" don't work...for those of you who think so, think again. All they do is prohibit peaceful people, who may need it to protect themselves. For a first time felon, who turned his whole life around for the good. This sucks. Antique black powder is fun, but I don't want to bet my life, or my family's life on it. Just for the record NCs gun laws are s#@t.

Really sorry about this for you. Glad you and family were not hurt. I understand your anger as I would have some if I was you too. I hope this was just a random act.

I can't remember who, but someone suggested I get a ball bat. Today I'm like... REALLY!!! What in world am I supposed to do with that? I didn't realize how far 9mm rounds could travel through a home. If they wanted to they could've turned 1100 square feet into Swiss cheese.

I'm sorry this happened to you guys. I can't even begin to imagine how awful it was.
It's not a good feeling. This neighborhood...I knew it was trouble from the start. I met my wife in 2017, she's from Arizona, and had gotten out of an abusive relationship. She didn't know this area, and habitat for humanity was willing to help her get a home. The floor plans we're drawn up before we even got serious. Then one day she said, come, see my new foundation for my home. When we arrived to the area...I knew. I even told her, there's places we didn't go as teens, and this area was one of them. She moved in at the end of 2017, and I moved in mid 2018...I was worried for her, and I love her. We got married last April. She's my soulmate. I swore to her I protect her, and honor her, and I intend to do so.

Wow, that sucks. Might not be great timing, but it sounds like you really need to re-evaluate your home location. Not easy I know, but most homes aren’t worth dying for. I’d also be doing some soul searching to see if this was random or caused by someone or something. Most homes don’t get shot up.

Stay safe and good luck.

Check
And check
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
We most definitely will be moving...soon I hope.

Sorry that happened to you. My (now wife) was home for an invasion. They broke in after pounding on the door and she pulled back the curtain and saw she was in there. Thankfully, an alarm system they didn’t expect scared them off. Never felt the same in that house. Never. Always felt, violated. The first few weeks were the worst, just waiting for it to happen again.

The type of event sounds gang related to me. Entirely possible it was a mistaken identity. We’re not talking about Mensa candidates here, but also possibly not. If so, it’s probably over drugs, turf, or disrespect.

You've been kind to me ever since I've joined this forum. I'm feeling like it's something along the lines of what you stated. I could be wrong, but it feels like a warning. There's gang activity here, I've seen it. We don't bother anyone, we don't do drugs, and we don't have anyone over. My head's a mess.

Glad no one was injured. Did the police have any idea who was behind this?

Also, I'm only talking about last night, if you had a firearm by your bedside, what would you have done?

First, glad everyone is okay.
Second, how bad is the damage? Were all of the cars hit, or just your wifes? Were shots concentrated on any part of the house? How many total rounds?
Third, as you described the situation a firearm would have done you no good, and it might have gotten you injured or killed. I say no good because your family was not hit, a gunfight doesn’t end much better than that. Sorry to judge you like this, but you strike me as a guy that would be unable to lay low if you had a gun, you’re more the “a good defense is a strong offense” kinda guy. You’d have grabbed a gun and moved to return fire, and maybe they would have left the area more quickly or maybe they would have stuck around to engage.

So where to go from here? Well the first thing I’d do is move, and I know that you’re working on that.
Second thing, would the wife and kids feel better if you reinforced their rooms? A simple box that’s 8’x4’ and 6” thick filled with rubber mulch would take most or all the heat out of a 9mm fired from the street. Put their beds behind that.
Finally, please remind me about the rules for the spouse of a felon owning a firearm? You didn’t need one this time, but next time might be different.

What area are you in? I'm just outside of Concord. I know there were a bunch of habitat houses built over on Fisher St.

Isn't there a way to petition the courts to get the rights back?

I really hate to hear this happened to you but I'm glad to hear everyone is ok. Do any of your neighbors have camera's? Nest door bell cams or other security cams? If you have the Next door app that could be a resource to ask if anyone heard or saw anything. Maybe with all the noise someone looked out their window?

Nothing different, but I would've felt and feel a whole lot better with modern weapons. What if they would kept shooting? What if they would've tried forced entry? What if?

Absolutely get the heck out of that neighborhood as soon as you can. There are plenty of places to live that this is not a problem. Of course anything can happen anywhere but if you know there is gang activity nearby that’s reason enough to me to get out.

Glad you're all ok. Hate it you had to go through this.

Sounds like you're working on figuring it out & getting put of that area. Keep us posted, get safe, get your lives back to a good place.

Glad everyone is alive and well.

PM me, my former boss man lives in concord if I’m not mistaken can talk to him tomorrow and get some better idea. All else fails come towards the mountains lol

just pm me and see what we can figure out

Glad everyone's ok. I know you felt/feel defenseless and I'm not sure what you can do about that right now. I'm assuming they said they would up patrols. Meanwhile, before you move, can you afford something like a ring camera to be able to record who might be coming around? You can take it with you when you move. Just a thought.
You can't even have a shotgun?

Hmm, Independent Tribune or even the WSOC rag don't have any info on this event.

Did you call *actually* the cops?

Show us some pics of the damage...........
Yes we called!!! It happened early Sunday morning about 12:45 am. We're still waiting on the police report ourselves, so we can get in touch with insurance company. That is kinda odd though.

A felon can't be in the vicinity of a firearm. I know someone who is a felon and his wife bought a pistol to keep in her nightstand because her and a new baby were home alone a lot because he worked out of town and usually wouldn't get home till early in the morning. They lived in a not so great part of Fayetteville. His home was raided while they were asleep (he was on probation) and they found the pistol. He is now doing 15 yrs.
