Went in to put out some more corn and 10 feet from my corn is a two person blind that’s spoda be somewhere else. Drug said blind up to the top of my trail and left it just inside the woods. Might go this weekend and knock on the door off who I think the owner is.

I think it’s the guy that’s let’s his dogs and kids run all over. And the guy that keeps making big changes on his land that keeps screwing up the deer patterns. He clear cut all his property now wants to put a blind in my woods because there’s more room. That’s not going to work.

This is about the third season in a row that’s been screwed up but something they have done. It’s getting to be more trouble than it’s worth.

Make sure the property is posted, either signage or purple paint, and call the game warden to handle it.

We have kind of played nice until now. For years I was about the only one using any of the property. So I have hunted mine and parts of 3 others that butt up to us. But all that has changed with houses being built and property changing hands. I talk to the folks on one side, it's not them. My cousin is on one side, it's not them. I think it's the McMansion/urban farm on the bottom that has shown zero interest in hunting until now.

Problem is, walking that entire property line to post it during the season is going to just screw things up more. But that's probably what I'll be doing here soon. Been hunting over that about 25 years but not likely to last much longer. The neighbor I talk to said the few deer that had been seeing have disappeared recently. Might not be until the rut that we get any new traffic if that's the case.

I use signage and purple paint, but apparently a lot of people can't read and are purple color blind.

This "purple paint" thing seems so odd to me. I have hunting land in NY and have always posted signs. Does anyone know of the origin of "purple paint" as a no hunting indicator?

Just a "WAG" but I would assume most timber companies and surveyors use blue, red, orange and such as markers. I have yet to see a timber company or anyone use purple paint as a marking until this came to law.

It’s a “no trespassing” indicator around here.

15 states have the purple paint law.

The law is currently active in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

After Halloween go buy leftover skeletons.
Dress them in hunting clothes and place them on spikes at the purple strips.

Word will get around.

And if you graduate to people use a blunt stake, that'll learn em.

I've hunted extensively in Montana and Idaho and never seen the paint. In Texas, a bit less but haven't seen it there. I will watch for it now, but GPS has removed much doubt about where I am.

In MT, you need the GPS when crossing corners at sections to keep from stepping on private land. Some there take it seriously and expect you will cross diagonally without stepping left or right - and stand there while you do. There are sections that are almost landlocked that are prime hunting grounds.

Been a law in Texas since 1997. Passed here in NC in 2011.

It's harder for people to remove the paint than it is a posted sign. I have some property with a small pond on it and every time I put up posted signs, they get torn down.

Story might get a little more interesting shortly.

The neighbor I talk with was hunting this afternoon. He texted me while he was out. The kid from down on the creek pulled up to his blind in a SXS while he was hunting. Just screwing around. Guy flagged him down to let him know that him and his dad were trying to hunt. Yes, SXS kid was trespassing and drove right past the signs at this point. The kid had the nerve to ask if he "had his stand." Then told him it was a buddies who had told he could hunt there. He didn't give him my info but told him I had removed it.

Apparently they had issues with the kid last year and the neighbors dad has the kids dads number. So I told him when he got a chance to get it and forward it to me. Apparently dad jumped all over his kid for being on their property. When I get the number dad and I are going to have a talk. I'll offer to return the blind just as a reason to have that conversation with him about his son putting a blind on our property. There is a decent chance dad is unaware of this, which will be a nice conversation. And probably talk to him about a couple other things.

Sounds like it's dumb kid issues. But I'm going to get it stoped. I'm gonna try to chat him up about whether any of them actually hunt. Try to preempt them getting on my cousins property beside me and screwing things up even more. Or I'll offer to post that side of my cousins land for them if I have too.

I'd prefer to resolve it without blowing things up. But I'm not opposed to blowing it up if I have to.

You’ve exhibited far more patience than I think I could have.

To be honest, if he rolled up on me while I was hunting I would have lost my mind. I was mad FOR my neighbor. And if they were riding on my property too I would be anything but patient. At this point it looks like taking the blind put a stop to it this year. Just need to make sure it does not happen again.

Oh, and they are cutting down there again. Not seen a single deer come up from the creek this year because they are always down there doing something and screwing up their patterns. But I've about written off getting any deer from down there anymore. Next year I'm moving my stand and gonna cut a shooting lane into one side of the thicket and try to pull them out where I can get a shot further up the ridge.

If you talk to him and he wants to come get the stand, you should have the game warden waiting with you. Let them have the stand in exchange for the son getting charged with trespassing/hunting without permission/riding off road vehicle without permission.

A lot of law enforcement act like they don't know you have to have written permission to ride off road vehicles on someone's land, so here is the NC state statute.

The "stand" is a ground blind and it's currently residing in my trailer at the house. And I've not seen any evidence they are on our property with ATV's. But they are clearly on the neighbors.

@chiefjason
How old is this kid?

Not sure. I can't see down there good enough to make a guess, but I can see them moving around in certain places. I'm guessing teens since he was driving the SXS.

FWIW, if I can resolve this without LE then I will. And that will depend entirely on them. But I'm not too old to remember being and idiot kid running all over whatever random property I could explore. I get it in that aspect. But screwing up folks hunting is what's pissing me off right now.

A couple years ago I came home from work to the sound of an atv that was to close to home. I jumped on mine to head into the woods to see two teens taking off across a neighboring field. Fresh sign and trail cam photos showed they had been on our property, right in front of my stand back and forth. I jumped in the truck and went the direction they headed and met the kids uncle who told me where to find him. It was a kid and his girlfriend, his response was that he saw the trails and figured it would be ok. I haven’t seen him anymore or heard the atv. Also had a pic once of an older black guy in camo coveralls on an old Honda that was actually in my pasture. Only two ways in my pasture and the easiest is through my yard. Never did figure that one out.
