Bought some land and it has a house trailer on it that I just want to be rid of. It was rented out for years until a couple of years ago a water line broke and flooded the floors so these would need to be repaired. It is a 1997 model and I think it's the longest model single wide (3 bed, 2 bath). It is free to the taker, but I know they cost to move. Comes with service poll, blocks, anything you want on the lot. It has a tongue but no axles. Title in hand. Address of trailer is 2017 Poplar Grove Road South, Boone NC Trailer.jpg

If no one takes it, see if the local FD will do a practice burn in it. They usually do a good job letting it burn to the ground and cleaning up.

It's too close to other structures, but our FD said they don't do trailers anyway since the are mostly aluminum and steel...

Thanks, lots of people want it but then find out what it takes $$ to move it and I don't hear from them anymore.

I don't doubt it- this one may be even tougher because of the floor damage.

Based on this, let the fire department have at it.
Just tell them you want to watch :)

That's considered an upper-middle class home here in Montgomery Co. If the floor was sound it would be considered a mansion, if it included a septic system it would be classified as an Estate.

The department I was a member of for 30+ years burned for training a number of buildings that landowners wanted gone, but we turned down trailers.

We stopped burning them down because of the EPA made us.

Well that makes a lot of sense. The FD gets no practice on trailer fires because of the EPA and the fact that well we all know trailers never burn any way.

Right, it's tornadoes that destroy mobile homes, not fires. ;)

I guess Meth lab explosions aren't technically fires?

When I talked to the chief he was bemoaning the same thing, said they used to be able to practice burn all the time but now there is so much red tape and EPA crap that it's not worth their time...

If'n it was mine, I'd tumble that thang down inta the field, an' burn it there... too close to the trees where it sits.

Also, if'n it was mine, I'd be mighty tempted to find a way to use it as an indoor chootin' range!

You know how a tornado is like a redneck divorce?

Somebody is going to lose a trailer.

Put ad in Facebook market place or Craigslist. Scrap metal free and they tear it down on site and haul it off.

BUT... you better be near by to supervise OR every bit of scrap will be gone and not 1 stitch of the rest moved/removed

That is what I heard, had lots of scrappers asking but worried about the mess. Had several inquires from craigslist but most are just full of it, find out it costs a few grand to move and they are gone...

My cousin had one, had a scrapper come out with an excavator, dug a hole, dropped it in the hole, then picked it up and crushed it while shaking it over the hole. Ended up with a bunch of broken glass and wood in the pit and a mess of mostly metal held by the excavator. Took the metal, buried the rest. No cash changed hands.

x2!!! I was just thinking about this today. Years ago I met a guy who ran a scrapyard up in Granville county and that is what he did with them.

Not to bust on Jim..,but this method would give me a heart attack.
Never understood the bury it mentality. It didn't go no-where, you just can't see it. Do you know how many carcinogens are in a mobile home? It's not like burying trees.
Hope they're not planning on having kids or drinking the well water.
Would you throw your trash under your bed? Yeah. It's the same thing.
Awesome. This is a much better idea. Hope it works out.

Well, a lot of junk was stripped out of the inside first over many years, it was mostly an empty shell. That said, if the process would give you a heart attack, then why worry about carcinogens? ;-)

I do dislike seeing cars, appliances and other large bits of trash just dumped off the road in the mountains

Damn craigslist, lots of tire kickers and outright robbers but no takers; seriously the guy who said he was going to take it just came and cleaned out the contents and disappeared. I was hoping one of you fine gents would be intrested....
