I was fondly recalling the heft of the long D cell Maglights of my youth, but then noticed they don't have the lumens of the new LEDs.

Anyone out there making a good club-like, absurdly bright, made in the USA with a great warranty that weighs enough to make people who don't lift whine about how heavy it is sort of light?

In case I need to defend myself from bears.

If this doesn't exist go start a kick starter and I'll be all over it.

I not sure how practical the lumen wars are. The light you linked is 600+ lumens, that's pretty bright.

Streamlight and Surefire should make some US made rechargables.

Well, Walmart has the bushnell lights that are battery operated in the smaller sizes and rechargeable in the mid sizes. It put off like 1300 lumens and will cost around 60 bucks. I got several of their lights and I am happy with them.

I have a nice steamlight rechargeable now that's about that size. They need to be rechargeable the way those things go through batteries, but they don't have the heft of the old school maglights.

I have a low/high on my indoor gun light to avoid wall reflection killing my night vision, but for my walking the dog at night light I want all the lumens.

I can understand that, bright light are great. Beam pattern is something to look at too. I haven't used one, but this may be what you're looking for.

Assembled is USA, rechargable and looks like there are several variations of it.

Yep, one of those is my current walking the dog at night light. Great light. Good balance of spot to spread.

Bit lacking in the bludgeon bears to death department though.

I think the heft of the maglights were a byproduct of needing that many batteries. Battery technology has improved drastically thus smaller lighter lights. Many of the new PD/mil style lights have a striking surface on the front of the light but I don't know of many that would function as an improvised nightstick.

What do you think about this one maybe?

Your not going to get the output of modern LEDs in a MagLight without doing some upgrades.

You could buy a Malkoff drop-in LED conversion.

There's a ton of hacks people do to them to make them throw huge amounts of light.

They used to sell a "extended battery" for Streamlight Stingers, I had one on a old one I used at work, didn't work for crap as a battery.... perhaps because it was just a milled piece of aluminum.

I have several Streamlights. I have 3 pen lights, 2 Strions, one HL the other regular led, and I have a Stinger HL. Love them never an ounce of trouble and I use them almost the point of abuse. I have had to warranty one pen light out, easy and outstanding customer service.
