I loved this handguard, the rubber coating, the non-slip texture was nice. The heat shielding when i get after it. The diameter of the OD was great.

But that 4 foot poi shift at 300yds it causes is a no go for me.

YMMV.

Using sights with the front on the rail? Otherwise I’m unsure of how a freefloated handguard causes a POI shift.

Happens all the time to many handguards and no to irons. I was shooting a 1-4 optic. Repeatable too. I could prop on the last 3"-6" of the handguard and watch the round impact 4ft high at 300yds.

Go to a lower flat on the barrier, handguard rested, and impact on steel at 300yds.

Go to a magazine prone and drill the steel, go back to resting on the handguard and 4 ft high

Is it touching the gas block?

Its close, might be. To be dead honest i am not chasing this down. Its 1 of 4 AR's i have and 1 of 3 18" 5.56mm uppers.

What i am going to do is take the upper apart and put the handguard in the trash can.

Contact Hogue, send it back to them.

Not to sound like a a$$ but why? Its not worth my time or the effort. When it comes to gun stuff i just learn, share and move on.
You're not being rude, not at all, if it is not working like it should then they should replace it.

What's the issue with the design? How does it attach? One of those shimmed nut designs opening the door for play it the barrel nut or just to tight to the barrel and enough flex to create contact?

Who built the upper? Sounds like an issue with either the barrel nut not being torqued enough or it hitting the gas block.
