Gemtech failure

Would someone who asks “so you intentionally abused it over a course of years and now you expect a free repair?“ be a dick?
A device with no moving parts should be able to handle normal use. normal use for most of our range trips is around 1-2K rounds of 9mm. SO it may sound like abuse, but if it can't handle a hard day at the range, then they should probably get out of the suppression business. I asked if they sold any hard use (full auto) 9mm suppressors and would have been agreeable to purchase that if offered. They do not offer such a device. I agree that heat was a contributing factor, but neither of these cans had over 20K through them. I would have been completely satisfied with a repair that I would bear some or most of the expense, but also not an option. The idea that we intentionally set out to abuse devices is incorrect. We may run things hard and hot, but not to a degree of endangerment to the integrity of a device. So to answer your question, no it DOES NOT make someone a Dick. It is a fair question without a full understanding of the situation.

Nice try and funny.

I wasn’t asking, just asking about asking, but now that you bring it up, <20k rounds since 2016 and the average range trip is 1k-2k rounds. You might get to the range less than I do.

All kidding aside, where that crack is, it looks like the can unscrewed from the mount a turn so instead of the pressure being against where it abuts it was on the threads. Wouldn’t take much of that stress to do the damage, especially if you happened to hit the end of the can against a barricade.

Good reminder though that lifetime warranty means no longer than the ownership of the current owners.

So is S&W the new Cerberus/Freedom Group?
After owning two poorly made Gen3’s, the Stigma Glock copy, then getting in bed with Clinton and the gun bans in the 90’s. I got rid of my 3 S&W’s and haven’t had one for 20+ years.
S&W sucks the big one. Has for a long time. Old S&Ws tho….

So I don't know if dead air 9mm cans are worth a crap. But I have a nomad with keymo mount. The flash hider was pinned 3 times. Honestly gunsmith error the flash hider is out of spec now and will not work with the keymo adapter. I contacted dead air and they sent me a new flash hider for free no questions asked. Their cs has been great in my case and they seem to be stand up so far.

Hopefully other members can chime in on what can would be good a brand to look into. Sub 20k rounds for a 9mm can is very sad imo.

Surefire.

Yup. I have to learn lessons the hard way. I bought 9 of their cans before they became S&W. If I had known at the time of purchase they were being bought........... I would have went a different direction. I got them from Perry's and they were exclaiming the warranty, customer service, laudable track record of an industry leader, blah, blah, blah. The long and the short of it is, like any other firearms purchase. Buy once, cry once.

Honestly, other than via bankruptcy, I don’t know how they escape the warranty obligation. They bought the company, the warranty claims come with it. if you have a written warranty might be worth going to small claims court. Seems like you’ve got little to lose.

Not a bad idea. They’d probably just warranty it rather than go to court. It would be cheaper for them.

Gemtech did not put the warranty in writing. Other manufacturers do that as well.

I have no issues with GemT making a business decision based upon the market analysis and rate of return for expected gain. They did provide an option and did so without being rude or dragging their feet in getting back to me. I also made a business decision to purchase suppression items elsewhere based upon longevity of the hardware and not name recognition. I will chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned and move on.
