Well a group of us got together yesterday at Raven Knob and got the range into shape and did some improvements. We cleared brush, got rid of a couple suspect trees and expanded the target line. The previous target line had a single wire to put targets on and could only hold about 8 targets. It's now double that length and has two wires, top and bottom. We also used some of the trees we dropped to make a third place to put targets instead of putting them on the ground. To the left of that line, we put in 3 more wires for even more targets. We also cleared brush to the left of that area for another place to set "primitive" type of targets. The advantage of having lots of places to hang targets is simple, we cut the amount of "cold range" time to a minimum so the kids can enjoy the maximum amount of shooting time we can give them. Of course, we had to "test" our improvements and spent an enjoyable couple hours plinking with flintlocks and "sighting in" the camp guns. If anybody has a question about our backstop, it's a steep mountainside. A couple pix-

This is an old pic but you can see the "old" target arrangement.

And the cleared area. The old target area only occupied from the crooked tree to about 20ft to the right. It's a bit tough to see it, but the target area is now literally 4x wider. Only 2 of our wires are up in this pic.

Of course we had to test out our improvements. Here I'm "sighting in" a camp gun on water bottles on a log. What's not in the pix is the splatter from a direct hit on a soda bottle, a 50cal hole right through the "C" in Cheerwine.
