What night sight height would you recommend when purchasing an optic like halo sun or trijicon ?
This pic is on the 17 but looking for the 43x MOS. Haven’t purchased sights or optic yet. Wasn’t sure if you base the sight height off of the optic or if it’s very necessary ? What do you guys think? What’s your setup if money isn’t an issue. I prefer not to go cheap

First you need to figure out how you are mounting the sight. Direct mount or plate? This will determine the height of your optic.

Personally I want all of my optic mounted handguns to have useable iron sights but I want them to be as low as possible in the window.

optic height over bore drives me nuts. If you’re cool with the SCS’s features, it will sit lowest, not require any mounting plates and is compatible with standard height sights. my G47 has an SCS and its a recommend…well in light of my preference being iron sights > red dot for pistol.

Is there an equivalent to the scs for the slimline glocks? Op mentioned that this is for a 43x.

thanks for pointing this out. sounds like the SCS doesnt fit the 43x/48 line. would be surprised if holosun doesn’t have something to market on sooner side.

I went with a holosun K series direct mounted to a slide from Brownells. It sits low enough that regular sights work.

Not sure. Does it matter? Does that just have to do with the adaptability of the sight to the slide ?

You won't know what height sights to use until after you figure out your red dot setup. There are a few factors. The height of your dot plus the thickness of your plate (if you choose to run one)

Mounting a dot as low as possible is what most people prefer which is why I recommend direct mounting a dot without plates.

Might be a dumb question but what’s the point of a mounting plate?
Sometimes you have to have one, to make the optic fit the footprint that is on your slide. Some of the optics with bottom loading batteries have to have a seal to keep moisture out (your slimline Glock isn't wide enough to provide that on some of the optics). Some people like the thick metal ones for structural support/rigidity, so they put them on. (As far as I can tell plastic is fine, and in some cases better).

Personally, I want the thinnest plate possible (if needed at all) to keep my red dot at the lowest height feasible. That's why I got a Romeo x compact for my Sig P365. No plate, mounts low enough that the stock iron sights work to co-witness.

You can see how low it sits compared to my M&P that has to have an optics plate for the 507K.
