I really never cared one way or the other about serial numbers with regard to when it was built, but someone was asking me about mine and I tried to look it up to no avail.

Someone who understands the interwebs better than I, can you lend a hand?

Gen 3 Glock 17 MGTxxx

"If you bought it new, there would have been an envelope in the case with a spent test fire casing in it. There is a date on there of the test fire and that'll be close enough to consider it your Glock's "birth date".
If you bought the gun used, you can take the number on the barrel and type it into the entry field on the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation. Do not enter the serial number. Enter the number on the barrel. It will decode it for you and lead you to the manufacture date."

---From the Googles.

According to both authoritative online databases [GSSF, Glocktalk], this is not a listed Glock prefix. MG is; MGT is not. Any chance of a misread?

MG R/U/V are all Gen 3 Glock 17 prefixes; there's an outside chance that yours could be an Austrian that hasn't been logged in yet --MGU*** from 2008 is.

Definitely MGT, does have "made in Austria" so that theory makes sense.

What info were you looking for? If age, it's almost certainly 2008 +0/-1.

I contacted Glock directly (emailed them and they called me back). Chick on the phone looked up the date on my serial. Clumsy and unnecessarily complex, but now I know.

They have not included a spent case in years.

Glock sometime back stopped providing the shell casing.

Not all prefixes are listed in these charts. It's essentially just data that was provided by guys that owned the serial number prefix in question. Many prefixes are not listed simply because an owner with a particular prefix did not report their date.

To the OP. MGT should date to approximately June of 2008.
