Good sources for info on S&W revolvers?

Anything by Roy Jinks is considered to be the best source of information.

But, if you have specific questions, many around can help.

Too bad you aren't closer to me,, I have 19 boxes of 38 Spl ammo I'm trying to sell for a friend.

I’ll actually be in Lake Lure this weekend. I’ll shoot you a PM

Why did I not know there’s a sub-forum literally titled “Wheelguns”

Thank you! I did found out that the 442 I ordered has no internal lock which is a plus from everything I’m seeing
If you search around, you might find a few comments from owners that don’t mind the lock. I have yet to see even one from an owner who loves it. 🤪

I’ve shot probably a dozen S&W’s with the lock. I will have to admit the performance was not affecte, but I don’t want to own one for two reasons. First, it’s ugly as hell. Second, it would always be in the back of my mind that it could lock up my gun. I’ve heard rumors, but never seen a documented case where this has happened.

I worked for a cash in transit company that issued SW 686s with locks. Several messengers were involved in shoot outs with the revolvers. They never failed and the lock wasn't an issue. The crews also qualified semi annually so the revolvers got use. I think having the lock is silly but I've never experienced a revolver with one fail to fire. When I left the company in 2010 they gifted me a new 686 which I've been shooting for 11 years now and still no problems.

Your 442 and all hammerless guns do not require an IL.

3 cases here witnessed by dozens of folks. They Can lock up...that's enough for me. I have 2, both were gifts. They will always reside here. One is engraved and the lock has been removed and replaced with a plug. If I didn't tell you..you would never know.
These locks that locked up here were all the same guns Model 317s.

Always learn something new from you, thank you. There were 2 kinds on Sportsman’s website, one with and one without the lock. I thankfully purchased the one without the lock and didn’t realize until after

Having 0 experience with revolvers, the lock was mostly (fully) cosmetic for me but after hearing of your lock-ups happening on multiple occasions, I’m glad to have one without the lock. Probably will never happen but the non-zero chance would still worry me
