Planning a long drive and am having to manually route around states such as IL. Google needs to add a feature to avoid stupid states like you can avoid toll roads.

Ironically clicking 'avoid tolls' cut the amount of miles it wanted me to drive through IL by about 75%.

A couple of years ago, I pulled my camper from Cary to Yellowstone and back. The only enemy territory I had to pass through was Illinois. I figured I'd stick to the interstates, not spend the night there, keep the gun unloaded and hopefully not get harassed by some cop who didn't care about FOPA. Well, outbound, I would have had to either stop at 2:00 pm before I entered IL and add a day to my trip, or drive till very late into Wisconsin. I chose to do neither and spent the night in an IL KOA. I decided that if I was stopped and he asked me if I had interrupted my trip through by stopping in IL for the night, I just wouldn't answer. Burden of proof would be on him, right?

Returning, we wanted to see the St. Louis arch. There's a great little urban campground just across the river in IL, and not a good alternative. So once again I spent the night in IL, though when out and about I didn't carry. Couldn't carry in the arch anyway.

All you can do is shake your head at the stupidity of some of the gun laws we have.

I just add waypoints when I need to skirt a stupid state. Plot the course, then drag and click a stop to shift the route.

Google knows you’re armed, hates you, it’s not in my best interest to have any of their apps on my phone. They’re worster than Bloomberg.

Guys, as a recent Illinois refugee I can tell you that Illinois is fine to travel through with a carry gun if you have a carry permit. You can not take it out of the car except to stow in the trunk, but your permit allows you some freedom.
I can also tell you Illinios doesn't require you to notify the officer unless he asks. Those people who do get stopped while carrying generally get warned about their speed and let go when they do notify. Stay out of Chicago. Stay out of Lake county. Rest of state is fine, especially south of I80.
