Got a surprise for ya Skippy.....

There's no reason to drive like an idiot. I've used my horn on other trucks plenty of times.

As to passing other trucks, it's not as simple as just riding behind them sometimes. Ever been in a truck with adaptive cruise? Wingman sensors? Blasted things just beep at you constantly if you are behind someone. If you drop back far enough for it to go off, a car will get in front of you and set it off again. It's pretty nerve wracking. IMO, governing trucks at or below the speed limit is a stupid idea. It's not that the trucks can't go any faster. It's the company will not let them. Lucky for us we are governed at 65 on the peddle and 69 on the cruise so we can usually get past other trucks.

And if you want to go 75 in a 60 don't get pissed of at me for trying to pass someone and not going fast enough for YOU. I'm not obligated to stay in the right lane and slow my day down to suit you, or anyone else. I'll get back over when I get around. Cars do the same thing to me all the time.
The speed limit was 70 and 75.

I’ve never understood why barely anyone is willing to let off for a second to let the other truck pass. Your rig is faster than my rig u go to pass. But not fast, next downhill or flat area so I don’t lose momentum, I’ll let off for a second so they can get on by.

Nobody else does that. So you get stuck in the left lane for two miles to make the pass because your limiter is a true 65 but theirs is actually 64.2, making me the a hole:mad::rolleyes:

Of course having driven cdl rigs of some sort for the past 15 years plus. When I’m in my pickup I watch out for them. Flash my lights to let em know it’s clear to switch lanes to pass, etc. it may take them a mile to regain speed, but takes me no time. So I’ll slow down to give em free space to make their move.

Used to be every time I’d get the hazard flash of thanks or a toot of the horn when I went by. Now days not so much... of course it seems like the slower rig on the right would let up to allow the pass until the last 5 or so years.....

My favorite entertainment with cell users on the road. If they’ve been swerving a little and I see the phone. Ease up to the drivers window with the front bumper just in the edge of vision. Lay on the horn and watch the hilarity ensue:D

Phones flying, drinks flying, it’s great fun. If you can’t pay enough attention to know there’s a vehicle in your blind spot, you deserve to have the crap scared out of you. I don’t want you to wander into my lane;)

Bottom line, before cranking your vehicle adjust your mental time schedule to allow you to drive and arrive in a casual manner. Then to arrive early is a added plus.

If that is not possible put the hammer down, fight for ever inch of open space and live for the stress.

Sounds like a trucker-tude to me.

There actually is another word for it but that one will have to do for now.

Whatever you want to call it. I've saved far more 4 wheelers from their stupid mistakes by paying attention than I've ever put in danger. I've got 14 hours to do a 13 hour job. There is no room for much screwing around. If I can get past a truck or car, I will. It's what the left lane is for, correct? Or is it just for the cars deemed capable by you? I have the attitude? You seem to think you own the road, or at least the left lane. There are other cars out there, some truck, deal with it. You're 4 wheeler tude came through before my trucker tude did, as a reminder. If you don't like what my truck is capable of doing call and ask our safety department to up the governor on them. I won't mind.

Again ... re-read my first post. My complaint is when the trucks run you off the road at the time you are passing them because of their impatience. And yes, if I am passing you at a higher rate of speed, (within the length of your truck) I own that part of the left lane at that moment.

So if you are that type of driver, which I really don’t think you are, then yes you fit into the azzhole column, if not then, then why get so upset. I’m not talking about you personally.

When the light turns green and the car in front of me doesn't go, I start counting. I give them until 3 Mississippi. If they have not started rolling on 3 Mississippi, they get the horn. I just give them a quick honk to wake them up, not a long blast to beleaguer the point. I honked some self-absorbed twat yesterday that was texting through the green arrow instead of going, and he starts gesticulating at me as he finally started to pull off once I honked. I find it funny when folks get all pissed off at me because I am actually paying attention while driving, when they are the f***tards that can't even properly negotiate a traffic signal.

I'm good with the 3 count due to the red light runners around here. A quick left/right look and then go.

However when their head is down in the obvious phone phucking mode............

I'll let up occasionally, but if a rig is able to pass me they usually don't need my help. Usually OO or small companies that don't govern their trucks.

As to flashing lights, there are companies teaching their drivers not to do that. I still usually get something, but not always. Courtesy dies with the lawyers get involved. The real difference is how many trucks don't have CB's these days. I got stuck in traffic the other night that I was pretty sure was there but could not get anyone South bound to answer. They don't turn the CB on unless they are in the traffic, then it's too late.

Most folks that have problems with trucks have never operated one themselves and look at the hulks as a major pain in the neck, they are. Rather than use the maneuverability of their vehicle as an advantage to avoid the masses of truck they group up behind them adding to the problem of traffic flow. Next time out for a drive try this, when the passing lane is clear and approaching a truck speed up and blow by the truck then slow down to a sain speed. When approaching a truck in the passing lane realise that the game is over for going up the road until the lane clears, balling up against the rear of the trucks serve no purpose except to add to the problem. A good half of the truck drivers out there driving everyday are doing so with very limited experience and need all the help they can get to make it up the road safely. Let us be kind to one another is a rule that works especially on the highways.

And when we do have an issue with passing, passing us on the right just slows down the process of getting over if that's what we where planning on doing. Several times a day I come up on a car fast enough to pass only to have the car speed up when I get in the left lane and leaving me hanging out there. For the record, don't do that. If you can't maintain your speed just let us go on. And before I can get back over there is another car trying to pass me on the right. And another, and another. I don't even bother to hit my blinker anymore. Just let them do their thing.

Add to that, I try not to pull over so that I'm immediately tailgating someone unless they are going fast enough to pull away. And you can bet that most good drivers are looking for more than a car length of road before pulling over in front of someone unless they tell you to come over. It's easy for you to see there is room behind my trailer, it's a little tougher to judge in the mirror and that's not a mistake we can afford to make. So jumping in the right lane to pass when we are pulling past a car just make the problem worse for everyone but you.

As for the loud horn, a friend has a rooster crowing audio he uses to wake up the sleepers. Less offensive but those that do nod off get the message.

The biggest problems I see on the roadways is that people don't drive far enough ahead of themselves. Trucks, cars, bikes, everybody. Most don't know what's going on past the taillights of the vehicle in front of them. Drive way ahead of yourself and you can usually stay away from the left lane bandits of all stripes.

I posted a rant in Tortuga in a thread I started called "Horn Blowers". I'm not bringing this up to counter the OP or any other posters in this thread that can't stand people sitting at green lights because they are not paying attention. I agree. Blow the dang horn if someone is sitting there reading a text or zoning out while the light has turned green.

I can't quote my post in the other thread directly because this is in Off Topic, but there are people out there that were specifically chosen to receive the special brainless douche bag award when they were born.

My thread was about this idiot that pulled up behind me in a left turn only lane, when it was very clear the road to the left was completely blocked off by a police cruiser and orange cones because of a large tree across the road. I had my right blinker on to get back out onto the main road since no one could turn left.

The arrow in my lane was still red and the lights in the lanes to my right were green and heavy traffic was passing by. When my left lane arrow turned green, this water head behind me started blaring his dang horn. Didn't bother me at all, he can blow that horn all day long right up to where the sun don't shine as far as I was concerned. He was either blind and using the force or just wasn't paying attention because from his vantage point, it was obvious the lane to the left, perpendicular to the lane we were in, was completely blocked.

When another guy approaching from behind and in the lane to my immediate right saw what the issue was, he slowed down and flashed his lights to let me out. The turd behind me went through the intersection with the intention of turning onto the blocked road and almost slammed into the front of the police cruiser sitting in the middle of the street with it's emergency lights activated. I could see him in my rear view having to back up and go back the direction he was coming from when he pulled up behind me.

I had a guy laying on the horn behind me at a green light the other day. He quit his ranting and raving when the fire truck went through the intersection with lights and siren. Dumbass.

This week while sitting at a light, I noticed how many people were either texting or talking. So I told myself that for one month, my phone goes in the tool box before I get in. When that month is over, I'll shoot for three more. People are becoming worse and worse at driving, and my avoiding them depends on me having minimal distractions. As for the truck driving issues, I agree with most on here that people don't know what it's like to drive a large vehicle and definitely don't know how to drive ahead of the lights in front of them. And as for the people who think I'm going too slow when I'm doing the speed limit in the left lane while passing someone in the right.... Your failure to leave on time is no reason to ride my bumper, I'll get over after I'm done passing. I can go from 70 to 40 in an instant without ever touching the brakes, how's your reaction time?
