Found a steal on armslist on a sti dvc limited and couldn't pass it up.
It's 9mm but that doesn't bother me too much. Means I can use my m&p as a backup and I eventually plan to start doing the 3 gun thing in addition to uspsa anyways.

Ended up getting the pistol, 4 mags, 3 mag pouches, and a blade tech owb holster all for 1900 bucks. It's had some trigger work done by mike allen and the grip safety pinned. Looks to be very low round count. Previous owner bought it new and told me he had shot it very little.

Anyways only blemish is a few little dark specs on the lower frame that I can't discern. Any clue on what it could be? You might have to zoom in but if you look just forward of the trigger you can see little black specs.

They don't drag on the finger or anything. Any recommendations to getting them off? Solvent's, polish, etc.

Anyways just showing off my new to me sti. pic 3.jpg pic 2.jpg pic 1.jpg

Wow sweet! That seems like a great deal.

I don't think that gun is gonna hold you back too much!

That's awesome. I was eyeballing that thing pretty hard, but think I'm going to hold out for a 40.

Lol geerub thats why i jumped on it quick. Figured a few people were looking at it. He told me 5 people contacted him after me about it. I think i messaged him 4 hours after the ad went up.

So does the grip safety still move and the internals are pinned, or is the safety completely stationary?

Either, depending on how crappy a job was done, lol.
I believe some are just worked to be non functioning, and some are designed to be fixed, as far as I know.

The ones I have seen that are made to be pinned (Infinity) looked and felt like it was rigid and didn't move. But I have felt some that were obviously working at one point and were disabled, leaving them to move slightly, but not work. I am not an expert on 2011, but maybe someone who is will chime in.

They make beautiful guns!
Very expensive, and year and a half wait to get one.svi 2.jpg

Personally I don't like grip safeties on that type of gun.
Unless they are perfect I always end up gripping too high and pushing it back up. It's not a problem for most, but I have skinny hands, and the meat of my thumb seems too be lacking.
Cold, skinny, strangler fingers.

Work great for most hands though.

That is a very nice pistol you picked up there, as for the little black specs just forward of the trigger, without actually seeing the gun I wouldn't dare take a guess as to what they might be, but as to how to remove them I would take a small amount of polish on a cleaning patch or rag and with just hand pressure see if they will come off, I would stay away from any solvents other than Hoppes.

Keep us posted will you? Again congrats on a real nice pistol.

Are you talking about the safety on the frame??
You said you push it up is why im asking.
I grip really high with skinny hands and i dont even think its possible for me to push the safety up on it.

Cerakote is a great option if you want your gun all black, I had the slide on my SR-45 cerakoted and I am very happy with it.

Im not gonna do anything until i know im keeping it. Need more trigger time with it to know if im gonna like it. Gonna put about 500 rounds through it this weekend training and see what transpires......
I know it sounds crazy but ive got my m&p just about perfect for me now

I wager that it will be kept.

I say you chose wisely

Yeah its definitely nice.
Just hard to compare right now. Been training with the m&p setup and now ive switched platforms do draws etc seem labored.

It moves still. Internals pinned i would guess. Mike allen did all the work for original owner and im 2011 stupid so......

It may have the shelf that blocks the trigger bow ground off. This disables the safety mechanism but still allows the grip safety to pivot off the thumb safety shaft.

I grip really high with skinny hands and i dont even think its possible for me to push the safety up on it.

If you get a high enough grip you can actually end up pressing the beaver tail up and thus rocking that shelf just in the way of the trigger bow. It doesn't take much. @NKD doesnt usually have an issue with mine but that shelf has been relieved so that the tiniest movement of the grip safety deactivates it so the bow clears the shelf and it can proceed to press on the sear/disconnector and drop the hammer.

No problem. The guy that owned my .40 before me ground that shelf off. I just got a blued replacement that I need to fit. If this area looks like it has been filed off or a lot of material has been removed then you've solved the mystery.

Like I said I don't know much about it but the original owner specifically said pinned and even said that he was shown where to put the pin etc because the gun smith wouldn't disable the safety as a legal protective measure for him.
It still moves slightly and I haven't even looked real hard but I would bet 1k 9mm that it's an internal pin.

Oh my. Dont ruin it. If anything, ion bond.

That looks pretty good mike. I checked out their prices and my gosh it looks like they are price gouging us fancy gun owners lol. Why is the 2011 more than the cost of an entire AR or shotgun with much less area and materials??? I might be wrong......... but that's what it looks like at first glance.

Hand fitting. Custom 2011'S are hand fittid and that takes time.

Nooooo! You will destroy your resale value, not to mention, bubba-up a perfect hard chrome finish and probably end up with functional issues with the pistol.

You got a great deal on that, congrats! That M&P is sexy though. I would go ahead and dump that inferior M&P or better yet trade it to some fat guy for a sweet pcc lol

Are we both talking about the coating? I was referring to the cost of the coating applied to a 2011 being much higher. Or do they need to do special things because the tolerance are tighter on a 2011 while coating. Not being a jerk just honestly don't understand.

Point taken sir.

I love that M&P since I put the new recoil spring in it. I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, well except to the matches in case the 2011 starts acting up.

It is hard to see in the picture but my guess is those dark specks is probably material from the Blade Tech OWB holster. It should be removable with a little acetone or bore cleaner.
