So, another thread got me thinking about Griffin’s Cam-lok system for some of my threaded pistols. Unfortunately, this type of thinking usually turns into costing me money! After reading up, checking things out and finding the items I needed in-stock (and all at one place), I spent said monies and the parts actually came in today.

I bought a Cam-lok piston for my Rugged Obsidian (they sell Cam-lok pistons for various brand suppressors), a 1/2X28 Cam-lok barrel adapter and also the Cam-lok compensator. My plan is to try this out on one of my threaded pistols...not sure which yet.

This setup should give me suppressor quick attach/detach ability (like a 3 lug) and also a comp for non-suppressed shooting. I like the idea of having a comp, vs a thread protector. I get a little extra out of it when not shooting suppressed.

One issue I’ve already thought of, is putting the barrel adapter on. I will torque it on, per instructions, but that’ll mean removing it to remove barrel from slide in a future disassembly. Probably won’t need to do that often and I could still clean the barrel without completely removing it from the slide...who am I kidding, cleaning isn‘t my strong suit anyway!

Anyway, I’ll post up pics and experiences once I get it setup and to the range.

Anyone else have any experience with Griffin’s Cam-lok products that they would like to share?

I've been installing them on everything I can. It's so nice not spending forever threading a can on and off or worrying about the can inevitably coming loose. Total game changer for me! I just tip the barrel out and I can access everything I need to clean it. Still got to add it to a P10c.

So I got to try this system out today with some less than stellar results…started out with a FN509 with the adapter and compensator installed. Went pretty well for the first 7 to 8 shots and then saw the compensator go flying into the berm under my target on the next shot! It worked loose and went flying…no damage to it though! I chalked it up to user error and it not being set quite good enough on the adapter.

Move on a 9 mm P320 and my Rugged .45 Obsidian with the cam-lok piston installed. Put it on nice and tight and proceeded to fire 5 to 6 rounds and my entire can files off about 4 feet down range! Obviously, I thought the worst! I checked can and the .45 cap (don’t have a 9 cap for it) had a slight chip in it from what I saw. I was expecting the baffles to be toast! I disassembled and there were no strikes, so I got extremely lucky! It helped that it was a .45 can on a 9mm as well.

Not real sure what I did wrong, but I didn’t chance a second go of it! The two adapters are Rockset on and we’re not loose. The cam-lok grooves on the compensator cap and the piston just didn’t seem to hold under recoil.

@some_kid6 I‘m open to suggestions or pointers. I like the concept and have other Griffin products, including a can, but my confidence isn’t real high with these right now! Any ideas?

I've heard of 1 instance of this on arfcom recently actually and 2 on reddit. Same symptoms. I would recommend contacting Griffin. They might be out of spec. I noticed they all seem recent so might be a bad batch or some sort of manufacturer process defect

Edit: had my numbers wrong
